From Ivy to the Top: Chances and Advice

When you list four options, you have to expect people to try to guess your school.

It was more of a way to show the caliber of the school. Maybe I should just settle this.......

Yeah your thread is going way off topic...which sucks. But that's just the way it is. Honestly, no one is going to humiliate you for ditching your school. I can't guarantee, however, that you won't be raped..............

lol awww patriotic dont be scared....is 'lurking' a common thing on collegeconfidential?

if you want people to take your threads seriously, be very specific. This will help other people help you. Seriously, unless you are a felon, why are you so paranoid about people tracking you down? =confused=

Guys, how do recommendations work? Do you have to give your professor the recommendation form for every single school that you are applying to? Or can you do it some other way? Also, can you use an old rec from a high school teacher?

Patriot...the very nature of transferring is that you will have to deal with telling people that you are considering leaving the school. Most of us here don't know you and won't look down upon you because you are trying to transfer. Regarding the reaction of people at your current school when they know you are planning to transfer: it's not really that big of a deal. Yes, it'll be hard to tell your friends but if they are real friends, they will understand and hopfully be supportive of your decision. Plus, if you do actually follow through with the applications, remember that you will have to approach at least two professors for recommendation letters.

"1) if they know me, humilate me for ditching this school
2) If they don't, track me down and potentially cause me harm."

If you have a legitimate reason, no one will humilate you except for a few
a-holes. Number two is just ridiculous.

Anyway, the chances are slim that anyone will be able to figure out who you are just on the basis of where you currently attend school.

Since you're considering Harvard, I'll give you some info: Of 50 fall transfers this year, 1 each came from Dartmouth and UChi and 2 from Duke. None were from Cornell.

Without the number of people who applied from those schools, those numbers aren't that useful unfortunately. Interesting though.

Plus though are matriculated numbers, not accepted, though they will probably be about the same...

What is your source?>

She got in :D

if you go to Cornell, u aint gonna get into another ivy easily

that was my experience, and i have a friend that transferred to Penn, and he said he spoke w. admissions and he has seen a list of the transfers published, and NO ONE was from Cornell

my friend who transferred to Columbia, he said he is the only Cornellian there

"He" brand_182....haha

Recs .... Guys, how do recommendations work? Do you have to give your professor the recommendation form for every single school that you are applying to? Or can you do it some other way? Also, can you use an old rec from a high school teacher?

Don't sweat this aspect of the process. Give your prof SASE for each school. Put the deadline for each school lightly in pencil on each envelope. Most schools don't care if the rec comes in on "their" form and some even say so right on the form itself. If you get the sense that one school really cares, then provide the prof that particular form.

Usually (always?) you cannot use a rec from high school. They really want college prof recs for transfer.

Finally, opt out of discussions with people here who are trying to guess where you are. Some folks are not productive on these boards; some are very productive. Paying attention to the formed will just drag you down.

Also, ignore all the folks who think they can predict whether you will get in based on which school you currently attend. They can't.

lol oops well I learned something today.

Congratulations, dude!

Congrats. Can you point to a link of your stats if you have it handy? I couldn't find it searching through your prior posts.

for recs do you know what ur prof gonna write? do they get to choose which rec you want to send ?

What do colleges think of being a student gov. rep?

this is hilarious.
and yeah.. you go to dartmouth.

yeah, im also sure its dartmouth! i have heard complaints about the weather, the lack of social life and the city being the reason why so many people want to transfer out.

there's a girl on these boards who transfered from dartmouth to Cornell and said that Cornell is "better in every way"

rock on! :)
