From Ivy to the Top: Chances and Advice

Are the people who get into HYS as transfers ridiculously amazing or are they just very good in all categories, but nothing staggering awesome? For example, for shag, from last year, didn't seem particularly stunningly qualified, though qualified.

I think you've stumbled upon the general difference between transfer students and freshman students. Note the word general for those who will be quick to argue, but overall, those accepted to a school like Harvard as freshman are up against thousands of EXTREMELY WELL QUALIFIED people, whereas transfers are up against a thousand or so well qualified people. Most of the people trying to get in freshman year (that have a good shot) have been working towards that moment for their entire life, and naturally, they will have a stunning application. Some transfers will too, but from what I've seen, a bit less is required of transfers as far as GPA/test scores/etc.

Jesus Christ, why is the threadstarter so paranoid?

LMAO @ him thinking anybody is going to harm him for saying he wants to transfer from one college to another

lol. I'm not paranoid.

btw are soph. transfers and junior transfers looked at in the same pool?

Patriot: You're exceptionally qualified academically, based on SAT I/IIs and your HS GPA. The fact that you're coming from an Ivy will be impressive to the Admissions Boards, though how you do there matters more.

What is your race/ethnicity? If you are a URM, that'll help.

Being a URM won't help you much as a transfer student.

Why wouldn't it?

Colleges are always looking for under-represented minorities, especially ones with high scores.

No, I am not a URM.
