From Kansas- chances higher?

Regional Diversity, make a difference? something that ive always wondered. In other words, in order to have that "diverse" group of students from all over the nation, would my chances of accceptance be higher for me because im from Kansas, as oppose to those maybe from Va or CA?

Thoughts?

lol. No opinions?

I am not sure. I think it is kind of a stretch to think that that will really boost your chances, but if you have good qualifying stats to begin with I suppose it could only help. I think at this point we all want to predict what will happen this week and we just can’t. After reading different threads and seeing competitors’ stats, it is truly such a crap chute. I wish you good luck, however!! I am quite nervous myself.

@JGA901: I know what you meant, but the visual on “crap chute” is killing me. Thanks for giving me a laugh. I needed it.

Idk. I wondered that to myself when I got accepted last year, like if being from CT made the difference in me getting into Duke and not into Dartmouth or Brown.

I honestly think it makes little difference. I mean if you know even 1 other kid applying from your area, think of how many must be applying from the whole state. Kansas has to have at least 20-30 kids apply, probably more. While Duke cares about that “we have kids from all 50 states” crap, I think they would be able to draw at least 1-2 of you guys.

So bottom line, it might help if you are having a down year for apps from Kansas, but seeing as 26400 kids applied, I don’t think it does much.

Now if you were from North Dakota on the other hand…

nope…when i went to visit duke last spring break, they mentioned specific states like North Dakota, and I think they mentioned Vermont…but I wouldn’t get your hopes up…and if you’re from NC, that could help since they want a lot of their kids to be from their state

boring post. If you’re in the mindset of asking whether the state you’re from will help you…you’re not thinking about the college app process appropriately. There’s no need to ask such questions. Application selection is quite arbitrary…so discussing one tiny factor is extremely not useful and really just being done out of angst. Breath a little and wait a couple weeks…

Nevada FTW!

I bet like 7 people applied to Duke from my entire state haha
