From Oxford to UGA

Will it be harder to transfer because I am not coming from Emory's main campus?
I read the requirements on UGA's pages, and I think I can fit them.

I am asking in general if you think I'll transfer fine or not. Sadly, having been accepted to UGA in high school does not help.

Thanks.

I don’t think they care…at all (do you seriously thing they’d be that gung-ho about getting someone from main campus? I don’t think so). As long as you have a decent GPA and have enough credits, you should be good.

I would hope so. I see people transfer to UGA from community colleges.
I missed the Spring deadline. I could call and look into getting in for next summer or fall. Then after this semester take spring off.

Most institutions don’t care where transfer students came from. The school just needs to be accredited and the student just needs a decent GPA. They know that a person from Oxford with a decent GPA is qualified for UGA for the same GPA. Anyone coming from Oxford, Emory, or Tech (probably Mercer as well) will likely have worked at least a tad harder than they will have to at UGA. They aren’t going to be biased against people coming from these places, nor will they make a huge distinction between someone coming from main and Oxford. They’ll only distinguish based on credentials and maybe state of residence.

You say they don’t care where students come from, but then you say they know someone from Oxford is qualified for UGA. So, will coming from Oxford look good to them? I am hoping I will have a much higher chance of getting in due to the school I am coming from.

Thanks by the way for responding.

I’m saying that they don’t really care in general, but as you could imagine, they know that some schools (Oxford College being one) are more high caliber/more rigorous in academics than others, which can potentially result in a little slack on the GPA. They won’t be eager to admit you or anyone else simply because they went to “X” school. Again, Emory or whatever won’t induce a wow factor that results in auto-admission (they won’t be going "oooh look, we wooed away a student from “X”…Go Dawgs!!), but I would expect them to take into account the rigor of the institution and curriculum when looking at the GPA. With a Tech transfer, they wouldn’t necessarily expect a 3.5-3.7 for example (yet they probably wouldn’t want below 3.2 either).

I get you. You cannot go below 3.2, unless you have 60 or more credits. But like you said it’s probably not wise to go below that anyway. Unfortunately I am barely above 3.2.

It would have been easier if I had just gone to UGA in the first place…

Yes, but Oxford probably gave you a better educational experience/grounding, unless that part of college doesn’t matter to you…I say it’s a good thing. You can just get to UGA and kick butt. You’d probably kick butt if you came to main as well.

Have you recaclulated your GPA without the + and -? When I transferred from Oxford to a state flagship that used only an A, B, C system, my GPA went down although that was because most of my grades were B+ which were then translated into Bs. If you have more minuses, it the recalculated GPA could work in your favor.

It’s no so good for me, since I am not handling the pressure and work very well.
Why would I kick butt at main if I am struggling here?

And thanks whenhen, I forgot about that.

Main generally has a lower workload than Oxford apparently. Sometimes exams may be harder, but unless you get a professor with legit standards or are in a small class, you shouldn’t expect too much of a workload on main. It isn’t liberal arts intensive like Oxford and uses a more standard model of elite private education (low graded workload, sometimes difficult exams).
