From Small College to Law School?

Hey guys, not much of a poster here but I check the site out frequently and just do a bit of lurking. But now I've been doing some thinking and I've got some questions that I knew (or hoped) some others on CC would be able to help out with, so here goes.

I'm currently between my freshman and sophomore years at a small Liberal Arts college (around 2000 students) in Massachusetts. I'm studying business, grades have been good (Dean's List), and I've always thought a degree in business would be good for me. I go to my college (if you're interested in knowing where exactly I go to school, feel free to PM me) because back when I was still in my decision making process, I had a close friend of mine pass away and it kind of triggered my want to stay at home and commute, which I do now. I am kind of thinking about transferring after my sophomore year, but I'm still not sure. My school was great with financial aid (so great that I recieved money back from my aid), which is another reason I feel it'd be good for me to complete my degree here.

Anyways, lately I've been thinking a lot about going to law school after I earned my degree, wherever I end up recieving it. I haven't looked into the whole process too much, but I will, and I haven't started looking at law schools either. My main questions are, how would it look applying to big-time law schools when I recieved my degree at a tiny college in a tiny Massachusetts town? And I'm pretty sure (please correct me if I'm wrong) that whatever my degree is in doesn't make a huge difference, but how would a business degree hurt/help?

At my school, there's not a ton of other majors to choose from that I consider good law school "prep" majors, except for maybe political science (which I have no interest in) and sociology/social work (which I think would really help). I've also already done a year of mostly business courses, so if I changed my major, it'd kind of feel like I wasted my freshman year, minus a few classes that I could still recieve credit for towards my core classes.

Any other helpful information/input is greatly appreciated. I'm going to do some lurking around these forums and gain some more information. Thanks in advance!

Follow that link, and you’ll see that UG really doesn’t matter as long as the school is an accredited institution. LSAT, GPA and to a lesser extent soft factors are the only things that matter. As you can see there are a lot of small LACs and satellite campuses of large state universities on that list as well as prestigious schools such as MIT and Princeton. Though Harvard is notoriously number oriented in there admission practices, many other elite schools are as well. If you have a 3.9+ and a 170+ you will have awesome options regardless of where you went to school, assuming you don’t have any glaring flaws in your application. It sounds like you have a decent setup at you current institution, so I’d advise against transferring.
