I really want to attend either UCSD or USC as a transfer but I'm VERY confused on what courses to take at UCR.
Im a senior in highschool
If anyone has previous experience with this situation, and if anyone has transferred from UCR to either of these schools, Please give me advice and information on what I should do!
Thanks!

Well it’s kind of late now, if you’re applying for this year. Basically, you’d want to finish all uncompleted series for the remainder of the year. Individual classes you could take would probably include Genetics, Mamm Phys, Cell Bio, or Molecular Bio. If you’re going to apply to transfer next year, you should try to take: GenChem Series, OChem Series, Physics Series, Biology Series (Note: some Bio majors don’t require the whole Bio series), Calc Series.

EDIT: Okay…I just saw that you were a senior in high school. So take the GenChem Series (w/ lab), OChem Series (if possible + w/ lab), Physics Series (can be trig based, doesn’t have to be calc based), Biology Series (unless you have AP credit), Calc Series (First 3 classes). If possible, take Genetics, as it is a prereq for a good deal of courses. Try to fulfill UCR GE’s during your time there, so you can get UC Reciprocity, and won’t have to do much (if any) GE’s after your transfer to UCSD

assist.org can provide you information on classes that are in agreements with each other at other schools. Idk how transferring from a 4 year to a 4 year works, but UC’s strongly recommend, if not require, the completion of IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) transferring from a JC. I’ve had friends who have made the stupid decision of following only assist.org and ended up getting rejected everywhere. Long story short, don’t follow assist.org religiously, it’s only a guideline. Talk to a counselor.

EDIT: Just looked on assist out of curiosity, they don’t have much available on information from UCR to UCSD. It’s a database primarily used for transfers from the JC level. I still recommend talking to a counselor though, you don’t want to spoil your chances.

I would advise talking to a counselor too. However, it might be hard to find a counselor for transferring at a 4 year college. 4 year to 4 year doesn’t have IGETC - it has reciprocity. I went to the Marshall website, and this is what it says.

“Full completion of lower-division GE requirements if you have completed all lower-division general education/breadth requirements at another UC campus.
All lower-division general education/breadth requirements must be completed prior to transferring to UC San Diego.
GE’s for UC Reciprocity Transfers:
2 four-unit upper-division courses outside your major field of study, including one upper division writing-intensive course”

So do all lower div GE’s at UCR as well as your bio stuff. I guess doing upper div GE’s would be kind of useless. Basically, the school submits a form saying you did your lower div GE’s at that school, and you don’t have to do many GE’s at UCSD. When you apply to UCSD, remember to put Revelle and ERC at the bottom of your desired college list, because I heard that they don’t accept reciprocity, which would suck.
