From UCSB to UCLA or Cal

I'm an incoming freshman at UCSB, and although I made a decision to take SB over LA prior to committing, I'm having some qualms. If I do end up not liking Santa Barbara as much as I would expect to, is there a chance to transfer to LA after 1 year (I'm okay with a 2 year wait as well, but 1 is preferred). Obviously I plan to keep a high GPA and EC's and Ofcourse have plenty of fun so admission won't be too difficult if my studies go as planned. I was just asking for some tips and pointers if I do happen to want to transfer!

:\ Don’t go into the school already thinking of a way out. UCSB has the highest happiness rating out of all the campuses and it’s a spectacular place.

Not really a tip, but here are the guidelines:

Intercampus transfers

After you enroll at a UC campus, it may be possible for you to transfer to another UC campus. Applications for intercampus transfer are considered in light of your personal circumstances and the availability of space in your prospective major.

If you wish to transfer from one UC campus to another, you must submit an application for undergraduate admission during the appropriate filing period.

Keep in mind some campuses do not accept intercampus transfers who have completed more than 120 quarter (80 semester) units.

If you fulfill the lower-division general-education/breadth requirements at a UC campus prior to transferring to another UC campus, the new campus will consider those requirements satisfied.

Oh trust me, I’m praying on it being the best school ever

As long as it’s not impacted major like EECS at UCB, my daughter has a friend who decided to attend UCSB instead of UCLA, he has 4.0(or very high) was denied at UCB for transfer.

Depends on the major.

At Cal, Business and Engineering (especially EECS and Bioengineering) are highly competitive. Social Sciences is also competitive.

Just realize UCB does very few inter-campus transfers. They do some but it’s rare. UCLA is much more open to it.

UCSB is a great school, and you shouldn’t dislike it so quickly. If you keep having the mindset that UCSB is terrible it WILL BE TERRIBLE. I do, however, suggest transferring out if you can’t get rid of that mindset. You picked it over LA for a reason. Why do you think you might have second thoughts?

Inter-camups transferring is tough bc community college students get priority and they tend to have higher GPAs (the coursework level is easier than ucsb). Also, there’s a chance that the classes u take at ucsb don’t count for credit at other schools. If you rly want to transfer, I recommend going to a cc to get a MUCH higher chance.

Also, you can transfer in 1 year if you have at least 60 units (Junior standing). Include all your ap credits and credits that transfer over. Good luck :)
