From where: Calgary or Earlham???

Hi all,

I'm in a dilemma! plz help me make the right decision. I'll try to say my story fast...

I'm an International student from Iran... I have applied for 20 universities admission in US and 2 in Canada... For Fall 2013, Computer Science...

my high school ECs was good. and also my high school is the most famous highschool of the country. but because there is not any SAT center in Iran, I could not get out of the county more than once for taking the SATs... because my dream school was MIT and they only required SAT subject... that one time I went abroad, I have taken SAT subjects (M1: 700, M2: 750, PH: 690)

As the matter of the fact, I have made the wrong decision: I should have taken the SAT I test!!!
I have waived it for all the schools in US, and I rejected from 19 of them...

long story short...
I have planned to enroll to college and then transfer to one the top universities...

NOW MY Q:
Do you think from which one of this unis is easier to transfer to on of the TOP 20 school in the US? Why?
- Earlham College (net price for me= 20k)
- University of Calgary (net price for me~ 20k)

anyone???

I can’t answer about ease of transfer to a top university … I have “heard” that from liberal arts colleges, it may not be easy to transfer – but that is pure conjecture on my part, so I would take that comment with a grain of salt.

We just visited Earlham with our son, and I think it may be his final choice (although we are early in the college search). You may find that, if you attend Earlham, you will want to stay there. It has a high international population, and a very accepting student body – AND the academics are as good or better than many top universities. Most everything I have read about Earlham is positive – especially the information that talks about what close relationships you build with your professors, and how that leads to more positive recommendations and preparation for grad school.

University of Calgary is large, and therefore, your interactions with your professors will not be as intimate or REAL. Earlham prides itself on relationships between students and professors that are first-name basis. We were looking into the Geology program, and there are consistently FIVE kids that graduate each year from that program. That translates to very in-depth research opportunities and very personal recommendations from your professor. Having known kids from large universities who graduate without research opportunities OR close relationships with their professors – and they struggle trying to get into grad school.

Thank you very much for your reply… Very helpful… :D
