Frustrations and need advices

I'm not a really intelligent person, but I always worked and studied hard in school and I'm a senior now.... I've even taken ACT prep in school for half semester. I took ACT 3 times and my highest score was 19. I need a 22 in order to get in LSU. English is my second language, it has a huge disadvantage for me. Can someone give me advices and suggestions in order raise my score, especially the english and reading portion.

Don’t say that you’re not intelligent. Your scores may be lower than what you’d like, but there is no way you don’t improve when you try your absolute best. Even native English speakers have a hard time grasping the concept of English language.

Raising 3 points is relatively easy IF you put in the effort. Fortunately for you, English is generally agreed the easiest section to improve on. There are so many resources online that you can practice, read, or listen. Look up past released exams by the ACT. Just do the English section if you are so inclined. But remember to give your very best.

Also, read and follow the advice in this thread (<a href=“Jeandevaches' Guide to the ACT - ACT Preparation - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/1071765-jeandevaches-guide-to-the-act-p1.html</a>)

Good luck!

Hi,

I agree with viphan. After all, the ACT is not an IQ test. English is my second language, just like you. In my opinion, many non-native English speakers are very good at grammar so I think you should focus on Usage/Mechanics questions.

You need a 22 right? The best strategy: in English choose 4 passages that you like and then do your best (if you have time do the last one but if you don’t, pick a letter to fill in ALL of the questions for that passage. That will give you at least 2 or 3 correct answers)

As for the Reading, try to skim and summarize the main point of the passages and then do ALL the easy questions first (those that tell you where to look at the passage)

In conclusion, DON’T PANIC if it seems there is too little time left. I know you can reach your goal. Good luck!

Thanks! The advice gave me a lot of confidence. I will give my best effort and do my best!
