@frykera Your energy and passion really come through in this forum. I’m sorry about FSU. They would have been lucky to have you. Hopefully there’s still hope.
You will find the right school! And they will find you. Keep at it.
My son was accepted. 3.9 GPA. 1,300 SAT. Almost all honors courses except 3 AP and 1AICE.
question: are some of these acceptances/rejections due to choice of major? My D’s stats were good but no where near as high as some on here and she was accepted OOS (no $ though). She is applying to BFA Acting which requires an audition which she will do in January. That may be the reason she was accepted. Old SAT superscore 1760, rSAT 1220, GPA 3.71 unweighted, 5AP’s and some honors classes. Her first SAT math score was a 400 (because she barely answered any questions!) but then got it up to mid 500’s over the course of her sittings.
@marg928 You make a great point and one that I’ve thought of as well. My son’s stats are comparable to your daughter’s. Both his GPA and rSAT score are slightly lower.
He was accepted for the summer term and has applied to the BFA film production program. They only accept 20 incoming freshmen per year after a mandatory interview in February. So, now we wait to see if he is invited to the interview.
Considering that his test score was OK, but not great, did his choice of major affect his acceptance? I don’t know; but, it is quite possible.
@jrmutley it works differently with the acting I guess. My D had to pass a prescreen, which she did, and her audition had already been scheduled before she received the academic admittance. Of course if she had not been admitted then we would have cancelled the audition.
@marg928 With the film school, you have to apply to both FSU and the film school by the early deadline (seperate application process for each). But, the film school won’t even look at what you submit to them until the University accepts you. So, yesterday was the first hurdle. Getting invited to the interview in February is the next one.
Anyone accepted get news about honors program?
Nothing here yet
Thanks for the encouraging words. Truth is I also am a firm believer in God’s plan. Since I have been praying for my son and the door was shut, despite pretty impressive test scores, God has another plan for him. And just the process of him working through this disappointment is growing him. All is well.
STATS in case anyone was wondering: 29 ACT 1350 NEW SAT; GPA 3.8. All Honors courses and 12 AP with passed AP tests. Undecided major… God must have another path for him. Maybe my future daughter-in-law is somewhere out there picking her University and that is where my son is suppose to go to meet her. I am a believer in God’s help when we are praying faithfully.
@STEM2017 I’m honestly just excited for all the people that got in, you know? And you say the same thing that a few of the alumni of FSU that teach at my high school say ;)) @FLMADRE you sound like my mom, haha! She was telling me the exact same thing, and I agree with both of you! Keep us informed what other school’s has he applied for?
You should call up admissions @FLMADRE. There may be something specific. With those objective scores it doesn’t necessarily make sense.
@frykera He was accepted for USF, UNF, UCF. UNF offered him a $12,000 scholarship. Nice for his Dad and I! However, not his choice of campus. He applied for UF since it was his Dad’s school, however, none of us expect an acceptance because his GPA is not high enough for UF. After two days of thinking, researching, and discussions, he is leaning towards USF. frykera, what other schools are you looking at?
@Newtownunt, That is a good idea. It would put things into perspective. His dad and I are both teachers and thought is Essay was high quality. He did not have a lot of outside activities, except his mission trips overseas. However, maybe we should just accept what is meant to be and help him move on.
My daughter was accepted for summer 2017. She had pretty impressive stats, a killer resume, an exceptionally strong essay, and numerous EC’s. She is also a talented musician, which may have helped in the decision process. Good luck to everyone awaiting a second round decision during the regular admission process: I learned that FSU has received 10,000 more applications for fall 2017 than for fall 2016. The increased application load is due largely to the fact that FSU has risen five spots in the national ranking, so it seems that getting in will be more competitive than ever. I am glad my daughter applied early decision.

I’m from cali and thought the deadline was January 15th for the essay/resumé, so I didn’t get the chance to send them in lol, my fault
@FLMADRE well, I wanted to be close to home a little, so I applied to FAMU, UNF, USF, and a few out of state schools that offered me full-ride scholarships: Syracuse, UCONN, Auburn, UofKen. I suppose, like someone had previously posted, the major, that you were going into and that’s why we got denied. I wanted to major in Nursing, but decided to change my major to Exploratory for the March decisions. USF is a good school, my aunt graduated from there!
@tylerhuff lmao, don’t feel bad, I forgot to send in my resume and two other essays as well.
@FLMADRE - I, too, am surprised with his stats. Praying it all works out and I have faith that it will.
