Ok so I have a friend who just got accepted for CARE off the wait list. He was compleltely caught off guard. He had already had plans to attend Miami-Dade College or FIU in the fall and now he has no idea what to do. A couple concerns he has:
-Fall Housing - Are CARE students guaranteed fall/spring housing if they want it?
-Financial AIde - Will he be fully covered via Financial Aide if he applies at this point being a CARE Student?
-He also want to know about FSU's Music School. He auditioned but wasn't accepeted and wanted to know if he could possibly re-audition next spring?

Just a few of his concern. I hope you can help. Thanks anyway.

My daughter was not guaranteed Fall Housing though living on campus is encouraged for CARE students. She wanted to live off campus and that is the path we chose. It is cheaper if you factor in the meal plan that she is not required to have living off campus.

The financial aid question depends on his EFC. Some students with a very high EFC are admitted to CARE if openings are available. If he does not quality for a PELL Grant on his 2010-2011 FAFSA then his Summer C session will not automatically be covered by FSU - he would pay for this on his own or with whatever financial aid he is offered whether merit based scholarships, various types of grants, loans, etc. If he is eligible for PELL on his 2010-2011 FAFSA then he will be covered at 100% for the Summer C session. The latest word however is that incidentals will not be covered (i.e. eating off campus, grooming supplies, gas for his car, etc.). Food, Housing (in Landis), Books, Tuition, etc. are all covered for Summer C if eligible for PELL through non loan sources including the FSU Grant.

His fall financial aid may or may not be covered in full. Again, this depends on EFC and, I would imagine, the amount of aid that is currently available. If funds are still available and it is applicable to his situation, he would be eligible for First Generation Grant (up to $3,000/yr.) that students attending outside the CARE program are not able to receive. FSU was very generous with my daughter. :)

I have no idea if he can audition again for the Music School. Sorry I cannot help with that one.

I was accepted in the FSU CARE program and will be attending as well! the FAFSA is the one major peice of information colleges need to figure out how much financial aid you need. i turned my fafsa in sometime in january and, since my parents lost their job last year and we really have little money and its a family of 6, my efc came out to 0, meaning financial aid paid for the entire summer session. If you’re in a similar boat with me, then the same can go for you. As for fall and spring, FSU gave me enough grants and scholarships to cover housing, a meal plan, books, and tuition…so basically everything. Just make sure you turned in your fafsa and call the FSU financial aid office and talk to them about how much could they give you.
I was planning on attending FIU too, since ive been raised to know nothing but miami and FIU, but honestly you should take this oppurtunity if you’re given it. FSU is an amazing school and if they are willing to pay for it, then grab it and go! hope this helped and hope to see you this summer (:

nolebaby: I too am at similar condition as you are. Having little family contribution.
does CARE start only at summer? because I will be joining FSU at fall.

C.A.R.E is a summer bridge program it’s supposed to help first generation students transition from high school to college life. So C.A.R.E only takes up the summer so you start classes in fall but they keep in contact withyou to see how your doing with classes and etc.
If you were accepted through C.A.R.E and decided notto attend in the summer than your offer from Florida State University will be taken back

Yup because you were accepted through C.A.R.E which granted you admission to FSU so if you don’t participate in C.A.R.E the admission is taken back

It a agreement basically participate in C.A.R.E and you get into Florida State

I don’t think it’s a problem to re-audition at the College of Music. I know someone who they did accept…but not into the music program she wanted (they listed her as “general” music major), but they told her she could re-audition to get into the exact music program she wanted, so I would assume your friend could re-audition too.

I applied in late September and I’m wondering if they’re still doing rolling admissions too. Is it still the every Thursday deal? Do we get the decision AFTER the FAFSA? So confused!
