FSU--Commuter school or centered around campus?

Im really looking to attend a school where the life of the school is really at the campus and not scattered around the general vicinity.

FSU is not a “commuter” school. Students live on or near campus and get around by walking. Most businesses around campus cater to students. Having a car is not essential.

A commenter school is really one where students commute more FROM HOME, ie their parents’ home, and from all over the surrounding area. They drive to school in the morning, return home in the evening, and only interact with the school for classes. While FSU has most of its upperclassman living off campus, they live close to campus and they are not commuting from their parent’s homes. It is also not a campus that is a ghost town on weekends. FSU is not a commuter school. Too be honest, it is too far from the larger cities of Floriida: Pensacola, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, Tampa etc for students to go home much.

Good points, sunny. A subjective test to see if a school is a commuter school is to visit the school on a weekend or minor holiday. If the parking lots are empty, chances are good you’re at a commuter school. At FSU on weekends (when school is in session) the campus is crowded and the parking lots are crowded.

On weekends students may be found all over campus, especially the libraries, Landis Green, the Union, the bookstores, the multiple Star Bucks outlets, and the Leach.

During football season the FSU Marching Chiefs will occasionally march around the campus dorms during weekends and play.
