My son was accepted for Fall to Honors Program, OOS Tuition Waiver. Very excited and grateful for the merit scholarship! Plan to visit again soon. Does anyone know if they do accepted student tours or when orientation might be?

When is he finishing high school? Make sure that he is only looking at the Summer B schedule since that’s when first-year students start. It used to be Summer C, but they changed the names to align with other state universities. Summer B starts June 20.

My son is deciding between Ohio State, Florida State and Bama. Any thoughts?

My son (international appliquant) was accepted (honors program). So happy…

My son is deciding between OSU and FSU, too!

I am OOS, got into honors and FSU, but no merit.

I don’t know why. I am however a summer applicant. At this point, does anyone know if you can get an OOS waiver upon starting in FSU? Like if we didn’t get it at our application, can we get it later in FSU like 2nd year or something?

I think it’s strictly numbers for merit… you probably were within just a tiny few points of the merit cutoff but merit is more computer generated so a very few high achieving kids slipped through the cracks in earning merit.

Accepted OOS with in state tuition wavier. Didn’t apply for honors.

Yeah. 4.5714 Weighted GPA, 17+ APs, and 3.83UW GPA.

I did get a 84%=C in one semester of my freshman Spanish honors class in 9th grade, so if that is the reason I lost on 57K of merit aid, that makes me want to cry.

Well I can tell you for sure that if that is true it happened because it was not meant to be… there is an opportunity out there meant for you! We never know why we have to go through some of these things but there is a reason… something along the way that your ups and downs will get you where you need to be and happen for a reason!

It’s not over yet, maybe you will be selected to interview for the Presidential! Fingers crossed!

So that was a 79 in one semester of honors Spanish? You sound like a great candidate for an appeal if those are available.

Yup. It was one assignment, where I was sick in the last week of the semester and didn’t have time to make it up properly, and I got a 55/100. 84 is one point less than a B, and it was truly the worst single moment of my high school. I have never ever gotten a C after that, and I only got one B grade last year. I can’t believe the world is fair if this small tiny thing caused me to lose out on OOS tuition waivers.

One important thing about scholarships and tuition waivers: FSU shares the average stats for that, but that doesn’t mean every student with those numbers gets the money. There just isn’t enough money to give to everyone who qualifies, so they have to look a little deeper when they decide.

Unfortunately the world is not fair… there will be more times you just fall short but the key to success in life is to pick yourself up and keep going and look for opportunity after a let down. You are determined, hard working and part of everyones path is disappointment the difference between those with a happy life is how they move forward and tackle the next challenge… one of the most important things you can learn beyond grades and the classroom is resiliency… it is the key to a happy, fulfilling life. You have the tools, you will be successful. You’ve proved that! Learning life is definitely not always fair, and you will have set backs, but life will go on and you will learn and grow from your struggles and opportunities will arise from those struggles. It’s ok to be upset but then get on with it. You will do great things that are also important to others around you!

If you were accepted, and want to live on campus, it’s very important to go into your FSU portal ASAP and claim your FSUID. It’s not immediate and may take a few days. But you’ll need that FSUID in order to enter the housing lottery next week.
