@chmcnm - I am so happy to hear that your son is having a good experience there. I have only heard good things. We loved our visit last summer. Glad to hear that you are also from Western PA! Many of the students in our area go to Penn State, so that is a fun comparison. I would take the palm trees over the snow any day! Do you find the travel from here cumbersome? It does not seem like any direct flights from our area. The drive is not ideal but manageable. It is a little far from home, but I think it will be worth it for him!

We are anxiously awaiting tomorrow. It is definitely his first choice. He is interested in Sport Mgmt and Finance. Weā€™ve been very impressed with what weā€™ve seen of the Sport Management program and experiences, social media presence, faculty. Fingers crossed.

For any admitted students and parents I would highly recommend joining the FSU Facebook pages. Wealth of information. Good luck.

Travel is a little more effort. No direct flights from Pittsburgh. Typically a stop in Atlanta or Charlotte. Not exactly cheap, especially around holidays. That said, the Tally airport is close to campus. There are cheap buses to Jax or Orlando if you wanted to try that.

We all drove last fall but we stopped in Atlanta to drop off his older brother. My wife wonā€™t do that again. Flying only and they can put their stuff in storage. My advice is to travel light, buy stuff there or have it shipped.

A car is nice to have but can be a pain to find parking.

I agree about the Facebook groups! The 2026 parent group is hidden, but will open up right after decisions are released tomorrow.

last year it was at 4pm sharp when we heard

Wonder what percentage will be deferred versus rejected. With applicants voluntarily moving to summer start, it may help FSU admit more. Deferrals are then compared with regular decision applicants.

Other than whether or not my kid gets in or not I really Do not care about the percentage of kids falling into each decision bucket. What difference does it make at this point or after decisions are releaaed? There is no such thing as almost getting in.

It will be interesting to find out later how many actually changed from fall to summer admissionā€¦ for us, FSU summer classes begin within a week of high school graduationā€¦

Iā€™m expecting my kid to be deferred so Iā€™m curious how large that contingent will be. For others, the big question may be whether their kiddo get an OOS waiver or merit scholarship.

Clemson is ranked #75 and FSU #55. Clemson has a pretty solid reputation. Any idea why thereā€™s a 20 point rankings gap between these two? Due to potential OOS tuition waiver and lower cost, plus high ranking, FSU made my sonā€™s list.

Does your major choice impact your odds of getting in at FSU? I know some schools, like UGA, donā€™t take major into consideration.

If you look at more data, I think youā€™ll find that Clemson averages only 7-10 slots behind FSU. These are all very subjective. Niche gives FSU small edges in professors, dorms, campus, food, party scene and location, with Clemson having an advantage in safety.

Thanks for this! My daughter is hopeful OOS candidate. Wondered what time they release.

Thanks for the insight. Yea, FSU surged in the US News rankings and Clemson may have dropped one spot which can impact a school by five points or so due to ties. Both seem like great schools. Graduation rates and Pell Grant enrollment may also be a factor.

All depends on the studentā€™s level of motivation. One could get a quality education at nearly any college and university with the proper mindset. Focused individuals can become highly successful without going to college at all.

We put a lot of effort into the college search, but Iā€™ve tried to take a step back occasionally to express to DD that weā€™ve overemphasized the search, as life opportunities will come down to sweat equity much more than the school selection.
