Great decision!!!
I believe so as well
Wow… @WWWard that’s awesome. You must have an extremely high achieving young student there. Gotta say, if I were in your shoes the practical side of me would have probably strongly suggested Princeton. Film is such a high risk occupation choice. Go to Princeton with some other major and you can pretty much write you own ticket.
Of course, that’s the 50-something practical dad in me talking. Not the young dreamer who used to be in there. LOL.
Not sure if anyone else saw this, but yesterday FSU named Reb Braddock as the new dean of the film school. I messaged the recent graduate that we know about the choice and was told that he is very popular among both the students and faculty.
Also, we just got back from FSU orientation yesterday afternoon. It was a pretty exhausting, yet informative, couple of days. My son has his summer classes scheduled and can’t wait to begin.
Thanks, @jrmutley
Yes… she is such (an over-achiever on many fronts in fact), but during the congratulatory call, the emphasis the Princeton admission rep placed on their decision was the strength of her essays, her creative supplements and her extensive background in theatre and film. Other posts on CC elsewhere have suggested that colleges like Princeton may use the wait-list to try and fill spaces that may need enhancements or replacements… like if an exceptional orchestra member or ballet star, etc, that they were counting on attending was lost to another school.
Overall… as a dad myself, I am still highly proud. Princeton accepts less than 7% overall and less than 2% get off the wait-list. More than 31K apply and the freshman class is only like 1300. She heard of her admission on Monday and has until the 30th to officially commit or decline the offer. So far… she has remained solidly committed to USC, but the official packet has yet to arrive - due in before Friday. She may still change her mind. I am fine either way. USC is #1 for film, and I already have an older daughter there… thus we as a family know it all well. But again… Princeton is Princeton.
In the end… I am actually hoping that the dream remains alive a bit longer… i.e. - USC. But if she decides on Princeton… I am fine with a little Ivy practicality as well
@jrmutley we are at orientation now. Good to know about the new Dean. Don’t know if you joined the FSU parents Facebook group yet, it has been very helpful.
