FSU Film School Job

Hey, guys. I was looking through film schools and came across FSU. I went to their FAQ on their website and they mentioned that they don't recommend students getting jobs while in school because of long hours and little to no free time, and I've seen other peoples' posts as well about that. My question is: how do the students pay for their necessities (I.e food, rent, car, clothes, etc)?

Financial aid, parents, savings.

Same way any student that doesn’t have a job would pay them.

/— that + student loans :)

A car isn’t a necessity to attend FSU unless one needs a car to get to a job. A job is a necessity for some students to attend FSU despite what the website recommends. The more hours one works though at a job, the fewer hours one has to study while in college. Most students should be able to squeeze in 10 hours/week for a part time job while a student at FSU. I think FSU policy for on campus jobs is tops 20 hours/week for a full time student–same 20 hour/week cap for student-athletes amount of time allowed “officially” for sports participation. Working more than 10-12 hours/week is difficult for a full time FSU student without grades suffering. Financial aid, including scholarships like Florida’s Bright Futures, is a real blessing allowing many students to attend FSU.

*If you are in the FSU film program, you are not allowed to have a job. Says it in the course outlines.

This is what they list on their website:

That aside, I don’t see how they can flat out tell you that you cannot work.

This is common in graduate school.
