<p>For the first time, outside of strictly FSU events, the torch on the Unconquered statue at the University Center was lit in remembrance of the students and faculty at Virginia Tech.</p>

<p>The latest sad thing I read today in the NYTimes was something as simple as a lock on the door could have saved many lives. People on the 2nd floor were able to lock themselves in offices, but yet the classrooms had no locks on the door. I hope that all schools in the Florida University system are re-evaluating a way to secure the classrooms in a instantaneous fashion along with other lessons learned from this horrific situation.</p>
<p>Amen to that.</p>
<p>If the shooter's mental health status had been merged with the weapons background check he'd never have had access to firearms.</p>
<p>There was a short one sentence comment on the front page of the USA Today that Florida is looking into a text message system across all 11 of it's state university's.</p>
<p>A good thing, some 20,000+ students and faculty have already signed up at FSU by last week.</p>
