<p>Florida State University College of Medicine joined with Collier Health Services Inc. on Tuesday to open the university's first medical campus in Immokalee.</p>
<p>The facility, created through three financial gifts worth $13 million, will offer pediatric and obstetric care while also giving FSU medical students the opportunity to get rural health care experience.</p>
<p>"I think it's a great opportunity for our students," said FSU President T.K. Wetherell. "Immokalee is one of the poorest areas in the state of Florida."</p>
<p>The grand opening took place Tuesday and the facility was named after the late Isabel Collier Read.</p>
<p>"Mrs. Isabel Collier Read got all of this started and it is largely thanks to her perseverance and support that this project has finally come to fruition," Wetherell said by news release.</p>
<p>Read died on Feb. 5. She was 89.</p>
<p>Wetherell said, "She did a great thing not just for FSU, but for all of the children of Immokalee who will live healthier lives as a result."</p>
