So FSU and UTampa have been my top schools for the longest time… I got accepted to UT with a scholarship, but have not heard back from FSU yet… if I do end up being accepted I have no idea how to choose. Can someone give me the positives/negatives of both maybe??? I love the location of UT but then it lacks school spirit and stuff like that, which is where I feel the whole “college experience” comes in, and FSU has that but Talllahassee is too cold
for me!!!
Hi! FSU decisions come out on the 25th, so not even two weeks yet until we all get to find out! I know choosing a college is difficult but a pros/cons list would be hard to help you with without more info. What are you planning on majoring in? Are you going to live on campus? What financial aid do you need/have you received?
Hi! As a UT student looking to transfer to FSU, I would say FSU is a much better choice. I have a lot of friends at both schools, and it may be me personally, but FSU is such a good fit for a lot of people.
Some positives about UT are:
the campus is very beautiful, the facilities are very nice, the dorms are very big, the beach is only a half hour away, I really loved the small class sizes, I hear that sororities/fraternities are very fun here, and since its a small school there aren’t long walks to get to class or some food.
Some negatives about UT are:
you will be spending a lot of money during your freshman year on uber because freshman cannot have cars on campus; also if you do like the party scene many of the nightclubs and bars are very expensive, the people here (at least who I have met or have talked to) seem like do not care for their academics as much as partying and going out, there are not a lot of clubs or fun things to do around campus, at night the campus can get a little scary because you are right next to the city and anyone can walk in, the food is the same almost everyday and will get old after a while, not much diversity, the wifi is HORRENDOUS, there is absolutely no school spirit, the staff can be very rude, and the people can be a little more unwelcoming here.
Some positives about FSU are:
the campus is big and is also very beautiful, there is a ton of diversity and people to meet because it is a big school, there are tons of clubs and big sororities/frats and just opportunities to meet people in general, there is so much pride and school spirit (football games are so fun even if they didn’t do too well this year ), a majority of the people there are very friendly, people there are pretty smart, the food is very good (but can also be the same thing often), there is always something to do when you are bored, the gym is huge, having a degree from FSU looks very good when applying for jobs (because it is a highly ranked school), and the nightclubs around campus have good deals.
Some negatives about FSU are:
the campus is bigger and on hills so you will be walking a little bit more to get to class and dining, it is a big party school so if you’re not into that it can be a turn-off, the class sizes vary but you will probably be in a lecture hall for a lot of them, the city of Tallahassee itself is not a nice place (however the campus is beautiful).
Overall, it depends on how you are and what is right for you. For me, I think FSU would’ve been a much better fit than UT. I am sure some people will disagree with some of my pros and cons, but this is my input and what I have experienced so far. UT can be a good school and lot of my friends love it, but when I thought about transferring and weighed the pros and cons compared to FSU, I believe FSU is a better school for me.
Location is something you can not change.
