Hi! Im a senior this year and Ive already been accepted into UNF, USF, UWF, & FSU. im still waiting on my UF decision but im a little uncertain i will be accepted. I want to go into pre-med eventually become a pediatrician. Now ive basically narrowed my choices between FSU and USF if i dont get accepted to UF.
soo my question is,,, which college has the better program for biology/med students?

btw: ive never toured USF so i cant say if i like it there or not. and ive been to FSU a lot of times and i love the area, campus, and its a good distance from my home. (2hrs)

THANKS (: (: (: this will really help in my decision process. i appreciate your replies!

USF has well-regarded medical school.

FSU’s medical school is still very new (just opened ten years ago) and is not highly-ranked in any way that I know of. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just too new to have made its mark yet.

Outside of medicine, FSU is generally regarded as the better school, but if you are specifically interested in medicine, then USF might be the better choice at the moment.

One other thing to consider:

Outside of the state of Florida, people are most familiar with UF/FSU/Miami, as far as Florida schools go. A relative of mine went to UCF and now lives out of state. He once told me that when he mentions his alma mater to people, they are usually not familiar with UCF. If you plan to work outside of Florida, this may something to consider.

both of the above posts make a great and accurate points. a compromise: go to FSU undergrad, and consider going to USF for medical school. i wouldn’t believe you if you told me there were guaranteed admittance programs between USF premed and med school. i don’t think that it would really make a difference which one you went to undergrad at for medical school purposes.

considering the majority of pre-med freshmen don’t go to med school, i wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket. but USF definitely does have a more recognized medical school.
