FSU Transfer Fall 2013

I am a freshman at Arizona State and wondering what my chances of being accepted to Florida State are. My high school GPA was a 3.0 out of 4.0, SAT: 630 Math, 510 Reading, and 490 Writing. I am on track for 32 credits at ASU with a GPA of a 3.4. What are my chances?

You need a minimum of 500 in each SAT category to be considered for FSU (with a very limited number of exceptions, none of which apply to transfer students, to my knowledge).

I would say that since your high school GPA was low, your SAT score is low, and you make no mention of your course rigor in high school, since you would have to meet both the freshman application requirements and transfer requirements, that your chances are pretty much slim to none.

I am able to meet all the freshman application and transfer application requirements. I will meet the entrance requirements for the 500 in the writing section because I will have 6 credits in english with a 3.67 GPA in those credits. In high school I took five honors courses and one AP course. I am applying to transfer into a limited access major of professional golf management. I have talked to the director of the program and he said he would try to help me by talking to admissions. Sorry for the limited details before.

Achieving the bare minimums are not a guarantee to acceptance and you sir have the bare minimums.
Which term are you applying for anyways?
Also, if you have an inside track to overriding the basic admission requirements, then why even ask on a public forum.

He is helping for only getting into the major, not the university. And i’m transferring for Fall 2013.

If you meet all of the requirements, that certainly helps, but again, the biggest detractor you’d have would be low SAT scores.

Trying to get into a limited access major at FSU is also very difficult as a transfer student. Your stats aren’t particularly competitive for a limited access major. You have to be on track for your intended major, among other things.

Your chances are better than slim to none, but not by a vast margin. I’d say more like 25%.
I’m not trying to discourage you, but even FSU says that simply meeting the minimum requirements doesn’t guarantee admission… and that’s for the non-limited access majors.

Thanks for the honesty and information. I appreciate it

The best advice I could give would be to wait until you finished your AA degree, and then transfer to FSU when that will be complete. It’s much easier to get into FSU when you have your AA (you’re given priority admission consideration), although it’s not necessarily easier to get into a limited access major.

You could also possibly look into transferring to FSU in a non-limited access major, and then trying to change your major to the limited access program you’re interested in. I don’t have experience doing that, or know whether it’s even possible, though.

I transferred to FSU with an A.A degree and a 3.25 GPA, then again my major was Economics, which is far from limited access. My SAT scores was 480 in CR, 520 in Math, 380 in writing. 6 on the essay. Super pitiful scores.

Transferring and getting accepted into FSU with an A.A is easy, but since your program is limited access, the biggest pro going for you is your golf management connection.
