So I was recently denied by UF which was(like many others) my dream school. I’m still determined to go there as a transfer but I’m not sure what to do? I was accepted into FSU UCF and I still need to apply to FIU but I’m pretty sure I’ll get in. I want to major in biomedical science. By the time I graduate I will have taken 4 AP classes and 5 dual enrollment classes and passed them all with 4’s(27 college credits)so i could transfer after a year? I have a 3.5(calculated) and a 4.07 weighted high school GPA. I got a 1300/1600 1870/2400 sat and a 28 act. Money is a huge issue for me so I think it makes sense to go with the cheapest option? I have no idea where to go. I live in miami so FSU may be too far from my mom since she is a single mother and I don’t want to leave her completely alone. FIU would give me the option of staying home to save money but I’d prefer to go to UCF because I have several friends there. Also I’ve been considering Santa Fe since I want to go to UF. So… Where should I go? Is UF worth the hassle of transferring? Does Santa Fe truly make it easier to transfer to UF? Or should I just go to UCF and stay for 4 years?

If you want the traditional college experience, then go to a 4-year school, and stay there all 4 years. If you just want “UF” stamped on your diploma, then go to a community college and then transfer to UF with an AA.

I believe UCF is a great choice for your major. However, if cost is a concern you can attend FIU or MDC for 1-2 years then transfer to UCF or UF. The cost of books, fees, dorms, meals, etc. can get expensive so being in Miami may help you save $$. If you can keep up your grades at FIU you can apply for grants or scholarships that will reduce the cost. I don’t recommend Santa Fee bcs it’s far from home and the living expenses are not worth it if you can attend near home. Can you retake the ACT? If you can get a 30 it could help you at FIU with tuition costs (I heard but not too sure). Did you apply to the Honors program? How about Bright’s Future? In regards to cost most public universities in Florida are about the same so in your case living expenses is going to be an issue. Try not to encur loans if possible so that you can continue on to grad school which is expensive. You will need more than a bachelor degree for your major so the more free money you get the better. Good luck!

I don’t just want “UF” stamped on my diploma but I do want to get a better education. MiaMom that’s a great point I think I will go to FIU for a year and I looked into it and you need above a 1850(which i have) for their scholarship. I never even thought about applying for their honors program. Thanks so much that really helped!
