Hi everyone. I got accepted into these 3 universities in Florida and have a few days to decide where to go.
I’m an international student who isn’t quite set on her major. I applied to FSU and USF as a biomedical sciences major (pre-med), and architecture for UF. I got a scholarship (of 4000$ per year), the out-of-state tuition waiver, and was accepted at the Honors college in USF. I was accepted into FSU through the Seminoles Pathway Program, which requires me to spend one year abroad before being welcomed on campus with an out-of-state waiver. I was accepted into UF with no scholarship whatsoever. I plan on discovering if I like my major during my first semester of college andI’m not quite sure which school is the best fit for me. I place great importance on the student life, and I’ve read other threads that suggest I should attend UF or FSU because of that, but I don’t want to be a financial burden to my parents. I like the vibe from these 2 schools, but USF is the most affordable.
@sofiabba if you are leaning toward pre-med look into the accelerated 7-year medical program at USF - https://health.usf.edu/medicine/mdprogram/7-year
USF and UCF (not one of your schools, but I’ll mention it anyway) have become “hot” schools, pardon the pun. USF has become much more selective than it used to be. Also, USF will give you the same big university experience as other places.
I mean, yes, UF and FSU are the two big state flagships, and for this reason, they have some weight, but if money is a concern, then I’m not sure why you would consider UF, which is offering zero financial aid. My advice? Go to USF, which is in Tampa and has nearly 38,000 undergrads. There is big-time sports (the Bulls are sometimes quite competitive in football), a big hospital (Tampa General, which has been associated with USF since the 70s), and a big-time party scene! Plus, you’ll be in the Honors College.
If not, can you afford FSU for one year before the tuition waiver kicks in? Even then, will it be expensive without the 4K scholarship that you’d get at USF? For a lot of families, 4K is not a dealbreaker, but for other families it could be.
I live in FL, BTW.
