My two top choices are FSU and UF. I want to go to UF because they seem to have better academic programs. I want to go to FSU because they also have good programs and a good cheer team. I know that I shouldnt choose a college based on the quality of their cheerleaders but I want to have an enjoyable time when i go. I think that FSU will offer me a good education as well as the best extracurriculars . I also want to go to UF because they offer full academic based scholarships. I think that FSU will only waive the out of state portion of the tuition.

UF does not offer much in the way of academics scholarships. Most students at UF just get Bright Futures.

What are your GPA, SAT scores, and class rank? Your stats determine what merit scholarships you would get.

UF = better academics and jods. Its a no brainer.

Seminole97, are you in-state or out? Scholarships at both schools are very competitive.

First, in-state tuition is about the same at both schools. OOS tuition is much higher at UF ($28,420 a year) vs. FSU ($21,570 a year)

Use the following link for FSU. If you’re OOS, the tuition waivers are worth far more than the $9,600 scholarship. Check out the FAQ link at the bottom of the page.

[FSU Admissions | Freshman | Finances | Freshman Scholarships](<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found)

Use the following link for UF. UF offers OOS scholarships (not waivers). In comparison to FSU, take into account the savings from the OOS waivers vs. the $ from the UF scholarships.

[University of Florida - Admissions](Scholarships | UF Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships)

The dollar amounts are reflective of the awards made to members of the 2013 freshman class:
Office of Admissions Alumni Scholarship: $8,000 per year
Sunshine Scholarship: $16,000 per year
Gator Nation Scholarship: $20,000 per year

Scholarships are very competitive at both schools (a bit more at UF), but OOS scholarships/waivers are easier to win than an in-state scholarship.

Both schools have a $30 application fee, so you may want to apply to both to see which one offers the best scholarship (or, since both are selective admissions school, which one may offer you admission).

Good Luck!

I am an out of state.

[This post](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/16611896-post4.html) is nonsense.

UF has better academics and you will get better jobs with a UF diploma. UF is number one in the southeast for a reason. case closed

“UF is number one in the southeast for a reason.”

Number One at what? Duke and Georgia Tech just called, they want to offer you a geography texbook. I wouldn’t dispute that UF generally has higher rated programs than FSU, but let’s not get carried away.

Clearly, we’re number 1 at JODS(phurs)!! I heard Tech perfers jeans while Duke only uses Breeches.

FSU is a fine school. With the exception of a few majors (such as Engineering), you’ll do fine at FSU. Even if they are lacking in jods…

Still, apply to both so you can compare the financial aid packages.

Good Luck!

The serious message here is that every school has strengths and weaknesses. Florida State is included and so is Florida.

Jods are jorts for kids. Jods can be purchased at Gainesville area clothing stores, including all Gainesville Walmarts and Targets. Blue and orange colored jods are the most popular colors.

it duke and Georgia tech accepted me, i would still go UF. Florida’s best university.

A lot of folks (in Florida) choose UF (or FSU) over Duke or Georgia Tech. Usually due to the cost difference. Especially with Tech. But it’s not a choice that’s usually based on academics (though some do choose UF based on the major’s being offered, such as engineering majors preferring UF’s program over Duke or communications majors preferring UF’s over Tech.)

The combination of low tuition and Bright Futures make the Florida schools very appealing to in-state students.

You need to look in to your specific major - FSU has better arts and criminology programs, UF has a higher ranked business and engineering school. UF is higher ranked overall in every general ranking, but those aren’t everything. Both great schools that offer the full college experience…
