I'm a FL resident National Merit Semifinalist and will find out if I'm a Finalist in February. Because of this, I need to make my decision soon so I can claim the NM scholarship--I can only choose one school to list as my top choice, though, so I need to decide by the end of the month.

I've looked extensively into FSU and UCF in financial terms (tuition, housing, food, books), and they'll come out about the same cost, assuming a become a Finalist.

This being said, I'm on the fence. I really like the FSU campus, but UCF is much closer. I'm taking an extensive UCF tour (meeting with professors, the director of honors college, etc.) on 1/13, and I'll take the official FSU campus tour on 1/18.

What it really comes down to is this: I'm really interested in English (and am considering minoring in poli sci and/or graphic design and/or journalism). FSU offers a number of different English majors, but UCF provides a measly 3 (Creative Writing, Literature, Technical Writing).

Which school offers better education in terms of liberal arts like English? There's no question that English will be involved in my major, but I honestly don't know which schools' programs are better.

The answer is basically the same as English is another department in the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S), and subject to review by PBK.

FSU would be a SUBSTANTIALLY better choice than UCF for what you want as when you add to the FSU A&S credentials the [FSU Political Science](http://polisci.fsu.edu/) capability there is NO better academic university for these subjects in Florida.

I would assume, also, you would enter the FSU Honors program. My remarks ignore the additional benefits Honors would give you. FSU would still present better academic opportunities even if you weren’t accepted to Honors.

They really, really don’t care what you put as your “top school” on the form. For one, you don’t even have to declare yet AND you can change it if you do. Also, they double check with you later on before sending the checks.

I was an Achievement scholar and Merit finalist btw.

Thank you, parent2noles. If I’m going to pursue poli sci in any way, what better than to be in the state capital?

Dnerd, I was under the impression that there are a limited number of NMS scholarships available at each school, so it’s best to list your top school sooner than later to ensure your receiving the school’s NMS financial aid package.

We just dominated Duke, are the front runners of the ACC Football in 2011, reload with a great starting QB, have relatively inexpensive Nightlife (Unlike ridiculously overpriced Orlando), and on campus you truly don’t need a car.
