Heyy im a junior in high school from jersey and I will probably go to a florida school and these are the top two schools that I like (UCF and FSU) because UF is really hard to get into. I toured FSU and really liked the classic college feel. I visited UCF but didn't get an actual tour of it, and I really loved the campus too. Im going down to get an actual tour of UCF soon, but if i get accepted to both, then I don't really know which one is better. I don't like how UCF is a third tier school as opposed to FSU which is tier 1, but does that really matter? Tallahassee, the short time I visited, seemed kinda crappy but then again some people say they love the city? Is there anywhere to even shop in Tallahassee? More importantly are the schools themselves though so idkk could someone help me so that in the future I can make a decision? Thanks!!

I read some of the other threads about ucf vs fsu but I would like to hear updated information and aspects of people who went to both schools and how they enjoyed their experiences at both

What is wrong with Rutgers and other NJ publics if you are from NJ?

Do you have cost and financial aid constraints? Check the net price calculators if you do.

What major(s) are you considering?

I dont think FSU is tier 1, but its a good school. I’m from jersey too and heading to the south next year as well so I know where you are coming from. But if you think Rutgers would be a good fit check it out. It is a very good school and definitely better academically then ucf and fsu. If your not into it thats fine too.

UCF-
in orlando so probably a way better atmosphere and nightlife.
newer school so better facilities
programs are probably getting better ( idk anything about ucf)

FSU-
huge party school
hot girls!
good athletics
more well known school
programs are more established ( idk what they are good at, but take that for what its worth haha)

I’m a Floridian and I’ve heard UCF is getting better, almost on par with FSU, so the difference is more in the individual departments and personal preference. If you’re a National Merit Scholar or Semifinalist, UCF has a really good scholarship which will take away a lot of the cost as an out-of-state student. My friends that go to UCF love it because there’s a lot to do in Orlando, what with all the theme parks (to which UCF students get a discount). Really, I think you should visit the campus and city to get a feel because academically, there’s not a big gap between them.

How is Tallahassee as a city? Does anyone know?

bad. i think its mostly ghetto, but nothing really happens its tallahassee haha. but fsu has hot girls which appeals to everyone!!!

Old discussion. Lots of other commentary on this issue, a search will reveal a lot of information. In a recent evaluation of universities by the Florida Legislature only Florida State in Tallahassee and the junior school in Hogtown rated as the top universities in Florida.
