FSU vs UCF

I have been accepted into both but am still largely undecided on which to attend. I only have about a month to decide. It's a really hard decision for me. I hear great things about both schools. I have visited both and like them about the same, but for different reasons. I like UCF because it is in a vibrant city with lots of things to do. Tallahassee is perhaps the most boring town on earth. However, I hear the party scene is better at FSU. I also hear the academics are better. So someone help me decide.

As an FSU alum, I will give you my biased opinion. Academically, FSU is ranked as a 2nd tier research 1 university, UCF is a 4th tier. Tallahassee is FAR from being boring, unless you don't like exciting college towns with things to do every single night and day. I currently live in Miami, and I would move back to Tallahassee in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself. I would consider Tally to be more vibrant than Orlando, but it all depends on your criteria. You are correct about the party scene, it's MUCH better at FSU.

UCF, on the other hand, is decent school with OK academics. I really don't want to badmouth UCF, but I'll give my honest opinion. I have many friends who graduated from UCF and are doing very well on the job market. It is a semi-commuter school, with many kids from the area. Orlando is a fun city, but it is not a college town. You do have Disney World, in case you get bored. Downtown Orlando is fun during the weekends, but it gets a little expensive after a while. The campus is new and big, but it doesn't have that true traditional historic feel compared to FSU and UF. UCF has a good engineering school, if that's what you plan on studying.

You should go wherever you feel more comfortable. You'll spend the next 4 years at this place, and you'll want to have the best experience possible. They are both good schools, so you really can't loose.

I echo fsumba's remarks and would move back to Tallahassee in a New York second. No comparison. Plus, FSU was rated #16 nationally for the second year by Kiplinger's as the best value in a public university.

As with all questions of this type, it would be helpful if you indicated your intended area of study.

Well, for now, I am into geography. I noticed that UCF doesn't have it but FSU does. When I visited Tallahassee it seemed rather boring, but then again it was less than a day so I didn't get to see a whole perspective. I love all the attractions that Orlando has and the fact that its a large city. Tallahassee just seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere.

FSU is large enough that the student body creates the social scene. Yes, it's somewhat smaller than UCF, and yes, it's in a smaller city, but its overal academics greatly beat that of UCF, not to mention that FSU has one of the best geography departments in the country.

OK...so you're interested in Geography. UCF doesn't have that as a major. FSU does. So what is your question again?

Well, I am not so sure that I will end up majoring in it. And I am willing to major in something else if the school is better.

"And I am willing to major in something else if the school is better."

Das- I really hope you don't mean that.

Besides...what school is "better" is dependant on the choice of major. If you really have no idea, then FSU most likely will serve you better....unless you think you might want engineering or hotel management.

ALso where do you plan to live/work after graduation..if you want Orlando than UCF would be nice..if you want florida or another state then FSU would be a good match

I probably want to stay in Florida. FSU seems to have alot more majors that are suitable for my interests so I am really starting to think it's my #1 choice now

I agree with you...FSU has a lot of different majors, and Tallahassee is a very nice city...And if you ever want to live in another city or even country i'm sure that FSU is well known.

Quite frankly, fsu appears to be much more of a fun time than ucf. It has bigger party scene, a good football team, and respectable academics.

Fsu >>> Ucf
