Ftcap

For the advising days I've heard two things.
1. the order of your advising dates are based off when you accepted your offer.
2. summer and honors kids get their date first.

Which is true? or do they mix the two.

Both are true. Scholars get the first two days because they get early scheduling, and then after that it’s based off of when you accept your offer. I have no idea about summer session people though.

thanks! I accepted my offer pretty early, so I’m hoping to get an early ftcap day so some classes are still available.

Summer session does there’s first before people in the fall. Fall session does there’s in June or July. Then if anybody had to rescedule there ftcap there’s would be in August.

Yes, they need to get the summer students into FTCAP first, because those students need to have FTCAP done before they start classes, which is in June. My son went in summer, and I believe his FTCAP was at the end of April/beginning of May.

A tip: the night before your FTCAP, go online and look through the schedule of classes to see which ones still have seats left. Make a list of the ones you’d like, and write down the numbers. (Add on a few extra, just in case some get filled between then and the next day). This way, when you get to FTCAP, you can just punch in those numbers and you’ll be all set. We did this for both sons, and they were both the first ones in their FTCAP group to be able to leave - way before the other kids, who spent a lot of time getting frustrated looking through a ton of classes that were already filled.

that’s great advice, thanks! I already have classes in mind that I want to take, so I just have to find out when they’re offered and go from there

Also, keep in mind that the schedule you make at FTCAP is not set in stone. Students add and drop classes throughout the summer, so if a class (or section) you want is not available when you register there’s always a chance it will be later. You just have to be diligent about checking for it.

that’s very true, I didn’t even think about that. thanks for your help!

momwriter, where can I find the list of classes?

schedule.psu.edu has the master schedule. Just select campus and class title and it will give you a list of all the classes in that department along with their times and locations.

took my tests friday! anyone know when they start announcing dates?

livelaughlove26 - how were the tests? DS is stressing over the Chemistry one because he hasn’t had it in so long.

I didn’t think they were too bad. english was the toughest in my opinion, but I’m a math person. I took chem 1 my junior year, and I was surprised at how much I remembered. There were definitely some questions that I was completely stuck on, but overall, it wasn’t too bad.

Grcxx3, My DS picked up an AP chem (which he did not take) study guide, reviewed for a couple hours and was fine.

do you take the tests from home or there on campus?

online at home

You take the test at home. I got a postcard from psu today. My advising day is may 20th.

are you in schreyers?

No I’m starting in the summer I think that’s why my date is early.

The Schreyer’s dates are May 17-18. Unfortunately, DS can’t get up there at that time, so don’t know what’s going to happen.
