Full IB Diploma?

Currently I am a freshman in an International School in Asia. I am looking to apply to a pre-med college in the US for my undergraduate. I am looking to take IB courses since they are the only rigorous academic path offered at my school. I have planned to take the full IB diploma courses, but then I realized that I would only be able to take 2 science classes. Thus, I was wondering which of the two academic path listed below would be a better preparation for pre-med college.

Full IB Diploma

Classes:
- IB English SL
- IB Maths HL
- IB Spanish SL
- IB Economics SL
- IB Biology HL
- IB Chemistry HL

Not Full IB Diploma

Classes:
- IB English SL
- IB Biology HL
- IB Chemistry HL
- IB Physics HL
- IB Spanish SL
- IB Maths HL

In the second option I would be able to take 3 science courses at higher level, but I would not be graduating high school with an IB diploma.

Thus, which of the two academic path would be a better preparation for college for me and with which path would I have a higher chance at selective colleges and Ivy League.

I don’t know much about IB, but I am pretty sure physics isn’t part of medicine

Get your IB diploma. It will be worth it after all the hard work you have done. Don’t worry about taking three HL sciences - two is perfectly fine for premed. I think both tracts are fine for challenging yourself - you could even do a fourth HL in option 1 but it’s not really necessary.

I agree that you should be fine with either one and there’s nothing wrong with only taking two sciences. You’re going to spend at least a decade in school for medicine so it’s not like you’re in a hurry trying to get ready to do surgery in high school.

As an IB student, I would suggest getting the Diploma. Honestly, two sciences is enough.

If you want you can have 4 HL’s, meaning you could do Economics HL in Option 1.
