Full Ride for NMF?

Where can I find an updated source of information on schools that provide full ride for NMF (other than NM website)?

Also this website compiled by a CC member. You will find it in the thread referenced above, but you might want to go here first.

Since these scholarships change from year to year, you need to check websites at the schools for current info. Oklahoma, Alabama, and Northwestern have changed theirs a lot in the past couple of years. What is on the list is current for them, but just an illustration.

The list can’t always give a complete picture of the money commonly offered, so it is useful to e-mail/call the schools that interest you and poke around their websites. A couple of examples. 1. UMN-TC almost always gives a scholarship that waives OOS tuition in addition to the $11K/yr NMF money. They also give extras like a couple thousand for research money(very common to have extras thrown in like this, but aren’t always listed on scholarship page of school website.) 2.UTulsa. All that is listed is the full ride that about 40 NMFs get. But every NMF gets an initial offer that is full tuition or just a bit under that, so that much of it isn’t really competitive. 3. Michigan State. Listed is rm/bd +$4K/yr. If in addition your child is good enough student to get invited to honors college, there is automatic waiver of OOS tuition and $2500/yr assistantship for the first 2 years that stacks with the NMF money . In many cases there is the possibility of extra money from individual depts or more university money(eg UMN-TC Bentson) that stacks with the NMF money. So if a school interests you, don’t take that list as the ceiling on money offered, but check it out.

I saw on another thread that you are looking at STEM majors. If you get interested in TAMU, you need to apply early. They have early deadlines for honors apps, for housing deposits and the popular engineering majors fill up fast. If you don’t put a housing deposit (mostly refundable) down by the deadline, you won’t be admitted to honors as the housing fills up and you can’t be in honors unless you are in the housing.

The lists given have very specific rules. Any changes are discussed in the follow up messages. UTulsa, Michigan State etc don’t qualify based on the rules. They fall under you may apply for competitive scholarships category.

At least Full Tuition/Full Ride in magnitude (or equivalent)

Automatically awarded (not a competitive process or a published limited number of awards)

Available to out-of-state students

College must be accredited, public or non-profit private, 4-year degree-granting institution

Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to imply the lists are structured badly. I get the rules and have found the lists extremely useful in our own family’s college search. Just pointing out that they don’t reveal everything and are just a starting point. In our older child’s search, we automatically dismissed Michigan State as too expensive. But now that we know about the other automatic money, it is affordable and near the top of S15’s list.

The lists are very regularly updated and well-maintained, but since the app season is just starting, not all may be included. Denison’s discontinuation of NMF scholarship for this year just came up a couple of weeks ago. UCF told me they are updating their NMF page this week. Probably just tweaking, but still you never know. I thought OP is new at this so it doesn’t hurt to point that out.

No criticism intended.

it is getting harder to find “true full rides” for NMFs at known schools.

What exactly do you need to have covered?
Is your family refusing to pay for anything?

In another thread, you mention Engineering as a major. If so, then in addition to Alabama’s NMF big award, you would get an additional 2500 per year.
