UAH should have a good aerospace program, and good internship possibilities with the Missile Defense Agency and Redstone Arsenal.
Yes UAH is very respected for their aerospace program. And to mom2aphysicsgeek I did misread, thought it said UVA, but UA does offer a competitive full ride scholarship that my credentials place me in pretty good position to get.
And @3boystogo I did not take the PSAT because i had an important trip on the day that it was given…
What is the UA full ride scholarship? Parents are constantly asking on the Bama forum for other schoalrships outside of engineering and the response is typically, “there aren’t others.”
Our son is attending UA full ride, but it is from multiple stacking scholarships, only the presidential and engineering scholarships were automatic. The others required applying and competing for them. UFE and CBH do offer schoalrships to some students, but they are not full ride and they are not guaranteed. TheY are limited in number (admissions to the programs is competitive). Both are also connected to special programs with their own requirements which must be fulfilled. I am not sure about UFE bc it didn’t appeal to my son, but CBH requires specific classes and is actually a minor at UA.
All that said, if you are interested in research, definitely apply to CBH bc it is a phenomenal program. Our ds loves it and has nothing but good things to say about it. If you are interested in leadership, definitely pursue UFE.
I was talking about the Academic Elite Scholarship through the UFE… and leadership is definitely something I will be pursuing in college, which is why I’m also looking at colleges with prestigious student councils/student governments. And I know Alabama has a good program for that (UVa’s does seem to appeal to me more after research but that’s beside the point).
@tigerrocks13 You should move up your SAT testing date (before March 1). You can write to NMSC and ask for alternate testing to get into the competition. If you get a high enough score on the SAT, you could still be in the running.

@thumper1 They do meet need for both instate & OOS students, otherwise they wouldn’t be a Questbridge school.

Have you looked into U of Alabama Huntsville. If you have a 4.0 gpa they will give you a full ride scholarship (includes room and board) and they have a Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace Engineering major and of course NASA is in Huntsville. It may not have the prestige of UVA, however, it might provide you a tremendous opportunity to pursue what you want for nearly free.
