Full ride to Northeastern or UIUC Mech E (#5 in country)

Simply, where would you go and why? A full ride to Northeastern University or University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, both for Mechanical engineering. I also have a 10k per year scholarship to U of I.

bump

can someone give me their opinion?

Can you tell us how much each would cost, subtracting grants/scholarships but not any loan?

say i would graduate U of I with 40000 in debt.

I would kill for a full ride to Northeastern… Congratulations!! Also would you mind telling me your stats? I’m only a junior so I want to see how I compare. Thanks!

ketann, can you give exact numbers for each, not “say”’, not “imagine”… what your financial aid award letter states.
=> Can you tell us how much each would cost, subtracting grants/scholarships but not any loan

ok. I got my award letter from Illinois. I would graduate with $19,000 in debt. and again, a full ride to Northeastern.

amw, i got the full ride through something called TOorch Scholarship. It’s only at Northeastern and only 10 get chosen, look into it. My stats aren’t that great tbh, I have an upward trend in GPA (3.8) and a 30 ACT. however, my commonapp essay was spectacular and so we’re my UIUC essays.

bump

19K can be picked up pretty easily by a mechE. Here’s a case where I wouldn’t say that the less expensive college is the better choice since UofI mechE has a really high rep. So I’d say have you visited both schools? Does one feel better than the other? The weather is about the same. It sucks. Is one too close to home? If you can’t find a reason to go to one over the other, go to Northeastern. It will make no difference given your major and maybe you could lighten your parents’ burden.

thanks. and i’m visting Illinois on Monday, I have vistied Northeastern.

by the way, Illinois has always been my dream school. ALso, the $19,000 I will owe when I graduate will be completely on me since my parents are incapable of paying it. someone give me some insightful opinions, please.

persuade me! someoneeeeee! anyoneeeeee!

The TORCH program at Northeastern is for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who show great promise. There are abundant support services offered there to make sure you make it through. Will you be on your own to sink or swim at UIUC?

Thanks! Mine are actually really similar. I have a 30 composite but my superscore is 32 if that counts

Also pick northeastern! You would be crazy not to in my opinion  Boston is so awesome and Northeastern is a great school

Why is Il your dream school? Have you visited… and has it lived up to the dream?
$19,000 in loans over 4 years for an engineer is very manageable. If it’s your dream school, it’s very good at what you want to study, and it’s affordable, there’s no real reason to pass it up, is there?
