Full ride to UMICH but also accepted to Upenn, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Rice and Cornell.

it would be great if you can lemme know what you think would be the best option for me ! thanks in advance.

UMICH- 40k full ride
Upenn- family contribution 29k-biomedical engineering
Duke- family contribution 28k-biomedical engineering
Johns Hopkins - don't know yet-biomedical engineering
Rice - don't know yet-biomedical engineering
Cornell- family contribution 20k-human ecology

im a premed student.

bump..........

Why do you want to go to med school?

I would go to Michigan.

Michigan for sure. You're going to need that money for medical school.

Michigan for sure. It's a great school, and we have an amazing taekwondo team (I'm the VP :) ).

Jhu .......

mich 10char

It seems like $ is a big issue, so I'd go with UMich. If it wasn't that big of a deal, I'd go with JHU.

Yes, Michigan with the full ride is the best option. On a side note: I know taekwondo is one tough martial art. However, it pales in comparison with Karate, Judo, or even monk-style KungFu originated from the Shaolin Temple.

Bottom Line: U of Michigan is as good as other schools on your plate. With the full ride, it's a no-brainer, especially for a premed. ==> go to UMICH with extreme prejudice.

Unless you have $300,000 or however much it will cost for you to go to a non-free ride school and then med school, I would strongly encourage UMich.

alright. thanks.

Michigan seems like the best offer , however you should wait until Hopkins gives you your aid before you make decision if EFC is 10k or below then JHU would be the best bet, if Rice's EMC is 6k or less go there and if not then Michigan would be great because you would save A LOT of money for MEd School later on.

Michigan .

Hopkins for BioMedical Engineering. The program is leaps and bounds above any other school in the US in this discipline. Not to mention that Hopkins freshman class is 1,200 students and Michigan's is is 5,400.

Hopkins BioMed program is far above the crowd, so go to UMich, earn great grades and do Hopkins for med school. Don't waste your $$ now.

I think that avant-garde and bluebayou offer good advice. Med school is expensive and long. If money is an issue, you will want to husband your resources in preparation for that. U Michigan is an excellent state university with a solid record of sending students to medical school. I concur with others recommending U Michigan.

i guess the better question is would spending 20k to 30k be worth it... i really want to go to Johns hopkins for medical school... but even the best at UMich rarely has a chance at Jhop med... thus it comes down to if going to Duke, Upenn, or Jhop would better my chances at Jhop med.

Hopefully, Alexandre won't see this post, but, quite frankly, methinks the competition at UMich will be slightly less than at Duke or Penn, and a lot less than at Hopkins. With less competition, your grades are going to be higher at UMich than at the other schools. Higher grades increases your odds of attending a top med school.

OTOH, spending say $20+k over four years to attend a private school may well be worth it for the other things that a private school provides, smaller classes, better advising, etc. But, unlike UMich, which is a safety to top Calif kids, Duke/Penn/Hopkins have plenty of really strong math-science premeds, and Hopkins in particular can be rather cut-throat.

lol... Alexandre is sooo in love with UMich...
