Thank you for all of the encouragement. It really has made me feel better. Although I still wish I was going to UMich. Thank you all.

Hey everyone - I got accepted to the University of Michigan!!! I am so happy. It’s been a rough couple of months. Thanks for the support. I wish everyone the best.

Yay! You go Snowbaby. You are going to have a great time at Michigan!

Great, snowbaby! make the most of it! My advice in #38 still applies.

Be sure to play in the snow in the Diag next winter!

Congrats snowbaby! I’m so happy your dream came true! You definitely derserved it!

I was a Dean’s Merit Scholar at University of Michigan which, combined with my other scholarships and a Pell Grant, basically amounted to a full ride. I really don’t know why I got that scholarship, or why they worked so hard to make sure I got it year after year. I was very strong academically, (3.997 GPA, 2nd in class, 13 senior awards), a gazillion extra-curriculars, from band to drama to NHS. But my ACT was probably average, 33 I think? I didn’t even realize how much the school gave me until it was all over… when I was calculating total grants and scholarships for my grad school financial aid applications. Michigan basically gave me $75,000.

I don’t know how it happened, but boy am I grateful. When I applied to college I was very poor, going through a difficult time and was supporting myself financially. That scholarship was like a miracle that dropped out of the sky and into my lap. Now that I am about to take on astronomical amounts of debt for grad school (and this is AFTER also being a Dean’s Merit Scholar for grad school… they just don’t hand out the money the same way.) I am really grateful for my practically free undergrad education.

snowbaby I’m so glad you got into U-M. From the time I was 9 years old there was nowhere else I wanted to be. Now that I’m a graduate I still feel every bit as strongly about the school. It really did change my life.

Dude, do yourself a favor and log off this site for a little while.

33 ACT is average? Dude, that is amazing, still is like the 99th percentile, and stacks up pretty good compared to your other stats.

Congrats snowbaby, live the dream!

If I am OOS applying for LSA with preferred admit to Ross, am I still eligible for LSA scholarships (or any other scholarships, for that matter)?
I am in range for merit aid (and have demonstrated financial need) and wouldn’t apply for Ross if it would hurt my chances at being able to afford a Michigan education.

thanks!

Yeah, I’m OOS and I’m confused as to what scholarships are available for me. The Shipman Scholarship website isn’t very useful either. >_>

JohnRambo: if, after you scour the website and still do not have an answer, I suggest you call the LSA admissions office and ask that question. I beleive you need 27 credits before you enter Ross, so wouldn’t the application be for sophomore year?

JohnRambo: The answer to your question is YES, you are still eligible for LSA scholarships if you applied pre-admit to Ross. I was an OOS Ross pre-admit who received a full ride scholarship, part of which was through LSA.

I’m currently negotiating with the office as to whether LSA scholarships awarded over 4 years can be applied to B-school tuition on a dual degree and will let you know about that when I get an answer.

And Prism, if you go to the financial aid website they have a page with a list of scholarships. All students are automatically considered for them with no separate application. OOS you are eligible for the shipman scholarship if your application and test scores are exceptionally strong as well as various awards through different departments. The Michigan Tradition, and Michigan Experience scholarships are other ones that I’ve seen people receive.

Hope this was helpful!

Go Blue!

I recently received a $20000 scholarship which combined with NMF money will make Michigan cost in state tuition.

I have friend who was just offered a full ride to all instate schools in Michigan.
Her stats are amazing, and she honestly deserves her free rides. She has just been accepted to UPenn Wharton for one of their science/business programs ED.

GPA: 4.0/4.0
SAT: 2400
ACT: 36

She, like me, is below 100K.

Hey fleaman360 if you dont mind me asking what was your family income? I have almost the exact same academic stats that you did… If you like you can email me at josh_drc@yahoo.com

Here is a link to a good description of the LS&A scholarship program.
