Does Harvey Mudd offer full rides to any students, or do they only offer some grants and the rest will have to be paid through loans? Because quite honestly, I doubt I can afford it.

I had a similar question and someone told me about the President’s Scholar Program. you can just type hmc president’s scholar program on google and you’ll get a link on how to apply. Good luck!

The president’s scholar program is 1) limited in quantity, and 2) covers only tuition.

Mudd does, however, meet full demonstrated need. “Demonstrated need” is the amount of need calculated by the FAFSA and CSS, and is NOT the same as what you think you need. Their opinion of your need is very similar to other meets-need colleges (at least based on our experience). Also in our experience, they met 100% of demonstrated need, with mostly grants, some work-study, and the maximum amount of Stafford loans. For freshmen, this maximum loan amount is $5500, some subsidized and some unsubsidized.

They do offer near full rides for financial aid… I know a few people whose packages are 80-90% grants, which leaves reasonable annual contribution+loans once you add in work study.

Also, note Presidential Scholarships are given to outstanding students from underrepresented groups. Note that the college takes a broad view of diversity, so people on this scholarship include women, African-Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic-Americans, first-generation college students, and students from rural areas.

There’s also a $10,000 a year Mudd Merit Scholarship given to the top ~30% of the admitted class on merit alone. This used to require that you be in the top 10% of your high school class and meet certain SAT/ACT requirements, but these guidelines have been made more flexible.

You can add other outside merit awards onto the Presidential to go towards coverage of room and board.
