My friend's brother is currently majoring in engineering at the U of M. He was offered a full-tuition scholarship his senior year of high school. Is this full-tuition scholarship exclusively for engineering students, or are students in LS&A and other schools considered? Do you have to do anything in particular (aside from sending in your original app to the U of M) to be considered? Thanks.

Yes, LSA offers full tuition scholarships. You must apply as early as possible to be considered because they tend to go early and they are generally given to a select few applicants with SAT scores well over 1500 (old style) and near perfect unweighed GPAs.

The scholarships that you want to look at are the Shipman, the Bentley and the LSA Dean's scholarships. These are purely merit based. There is also a new scholarship called the Michigan Tradition that has a need-based component. You can find references to them on the financial aid website and on the LSA website. No separate application is necessary for these scholarships; they just use your admissions application as the basis for awarding them.
