Does Michigan offer any merit scholarships for applicants? If so, do they need to be separately applied or are we automatically entered by applying? If so...how competitive are these scholarships and how much are they?

Yes, you're automatically entered by applying. Different programs offer different merit scholarships, I think (LSA has an LSA Scholars one, I think Kiniesology has their own and Engineering as well). Scholarships are hard to come by even if you have financial need; I heard somewhere that they give out scholarships in either 5k or 20k-I'm not 100% sure.

My S was offered LSA Deans Scholar--15,000/yr.

Thanks so much, i am applying to the engineering school, garland, do u mind giving me some of ur son's major statistics to see where I'm at? Thanks so much

Well, engineering has different scholarships from LSA, but here's his basics: 1510 SAT, 3.8 Michigan GPA, out of state, but double legacy. He wrote a really good essay for the science and art question, at least I thought so, :).
