Hey everyone! Before I graduate my department requires that I do a certain number of upper-division units that are not from my major. What notable upper-division classes have you taken at Berkeley? Which professors have just blown you away?

So far I have thought of IAS 115 and Education 190, since those are apparently very inspirational, and also fairly straightforward.

Can anyone think of any others? Non-technical ones would be nice for a change...

I can vouch for Education 190. It’s either a life-changing experience or an epic class. The only downside of it is that it’s not Telebears-based during fall and spring, so you have to get lucky to get in. :(

I saw that you need to get approved by the instructor himself after attending the 1st class meeting and obtaining the class code. do you need to woo him/her so he/she’ll choose you when you add the class?

I’m actually taking Education 190 this summer. From what I know and have heard from the mentors in the class (they’ve taken Education 190 before), summer is Telebears-based, whereas fall and spring is literally go-to-the-first-meeting-and-fill-out-an-application-form then hope-like-hell-you-made-it-in.
