I am HS Sophomore(African-American) interested in starting a fundraiser for underpriveleged kids in Africa specfically vaccines and food. Any ideas on how i can start this project any suggesting are appreciated.

do they have a community service club at your school? Even though what you're thinking of is not really "community" service, the advisor at your school might know people that you can talk to.

I would start by visiting the administration official who is in charge of student activities so you find out about the school's rules and processes. You can do a lot of research on the internet about fundraising and African relief. Many churches have AIDS relief programs and have ideas posted on their websites. I know the Methodist and Presbyterians do, and I am sure other churches do to. You might want to find out about speakers bureaus. There might be a speaker in your area who would be willing to come to the school to speak; you could charge admission to cover the speaker's costs and to raise funds. It is very important to advertise very well; your activity director can help you with that. You could advertise in the school and local papers, put it in the announcements, have members of your group speak to classes or homerooms. At my daughter's school selling food (especially the candy bars) always goes over. They also had very good success with a talent show. Some kids had bands, and they also had singers, etc. You need to gauge how much interest the student body has in African children and how likely they are to show up for a speaker. Planning and advertising are very important. You also need to do research to find out where you want to send your contributions. It will be a lot of work; it is good of you to take it on. Also, don't try to do it all yourself. Delegate to other members of your group. Good luck!
