I know some CCers are huge fundraisers and I was hoping for some advice. I started a nonprofit charity (pending IRS registration) to raise money to build a library for this really impoverished village school in China. Anyways, I wanted to do the following events:

Bowl-a-Thon (Disco perhaps?)
Golf Tournament

I was thinking that I would get local businesses to donate prize packages, etc.

However, I'm not sure how/whom I'm supposed to contact with what material. Also, I don't know how to attract people to such events (I know that they have in the past raised thousands of dollars elsewhere if planned well). Any advice would be GREAT, especially since I'd like to have the money by mid-June at the latest. Thanks!

Also, if anyone knows anything about having a silent auction, I'd greatly appreciate it! :]

Well, I was going to suggest a lemonade stand, but I see that's not quite what you're looking for.

lol. No, I'm hoping for something just a tad grander. ;D

i mean, you get lots of $$$ for that.

Um, sorry. I still don't get what you're saying... Anyways, anyone have any ideas/advice?

Gambling. Depending on your state, you may be able to run some gambling night. Poker tables = virtually no cost + nice rake and blackjack where pushes go to the house can make a very successful fundraiser.

uh yea~
another good pretty easy idea (if you can get help) is a dinner... and you can have a silent auction... I did two dinners in the last two weeks... one raised about $3,000. and the other raised aaround $7,000... but it just depends how connected , motivated and dedicated you are. PM me and Ill give you more specifics if you want them... ha i could write a book!
