Hey all...I'm not to familiar w/transfer admissions and because the fees to the schools I've selected are going to be several hundred dollars (3-4 weeks wages!) I'm looking for "chances" so I can maybe knock off a couple unrealistic schools, or be reassured that my $70 app fee is a reasonable price to pay for the chance of acceptance.

I'd appreciate chances for the following:

Wellesley
Bryn Mawr
Swarthmore
UChi
Brown
UPenn
Columbia
Wesleyan
Rice
Georgetown
Wash U

So you've already transferred once...or twice? Either way, that won't look too great, but if you have good reasons for wanting to leave Colgate it is ok.

Obviously you have good stats and are coming from a great school. I think you're competitive everywhere on your list...you just have a lot of schools and have already transferred once (at least) so make sure that you like them all before paying the app fee and writing essays. You're fortunate to be in NY: I would visit as many as possible and consider cutting your list down a bit, as I imagine you'll get into a decent percentage of the schools.

I haven't transferred at all. I graduated from HS early and used Rider/Comm. College credit to graduate HS early. I was never enrolled as a full-time student at Rider U. or the Comm. College...I just took classes for the credit. Thanks for the encouragement though.

I cannot sing Wash U.'s praises enough. I know a lot of people on CC have issues with this school, but I love it here and have found it to be very transfer friendly. If you have any questions about the process or what it's like here, please let me know!

hmm...what else can I say? you have great stats and are coming from a greatt school! I say you are a competivite applicant for all you have listed out. I think you might like Georgetown--for its lively campus (just a thought)

Wellesley
Bryn Mawr
UChicago
UPennsylvania
Columbia (see below)
Rice
Georgetown
Wash U

And, since you like some all women colleges, I'd add Barnard and delete Columbia.

As for other, further cuts...since you seem to like smaller colleges, I'd cut out UPenn and Georgetown. I'd keep UChicago and Wash U--smaller than the other universities.

I was looking at Barnard but was treated really, really, rudely when I was thinking about applying last year and am not too fond of their supplement...but thanks for the input!! Anyone else?

Don't apply to Georgetown, Chi, or WashU since I'm applying there...just kidding. Your gpa and sat are outstanding but the course load seems pretty average, still it sounds like G'town is a great fit for you.

sounds like you've got a decent shot at everywhere.

11 schools is a lot of work for apps. I transferred to Haverford last year and applied to many of the same schools you are looking at. I think I did....about 9 or 10 and it is a pretty significant amount of work on top of your normal workload.

Biggest thing is you wanna keep your grades up, especially if you get waitlisted anywhere and as I recall almost all those places ask for mid-year grade reports.

Good luck with all those apps.

As a selfish note you might also wanna check out Haverford seeing as you're interested in Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Upenn, all schools that Haverford has an academic cooperation with.

I just spent a whole weekend writing essays, and all I have left is the Georgetown application. How are you liking Haverford? Is it hard to assimilate as a transfer?? Thanks for all the feedback!

it's been really good. everyone's really nice and I haven't experienced many problems.

transfer rates are pretty bad though. last year 97 applicants and only 7 acceptances but definitely give it a shot if it seems like a school that you'd have some interest in attending.

Wow, that's really low! I ended up not applying to Haverford, but applying to Swarthmore & Bryn Mawr...kind of weird! Anyhow, any other thoughts on my chances would be appreciated as I wait out the month! :) Good luck!
