Guys, I plan to transfer for Fall 07 as a Junior. I really dislike a lot of things about my current school and want to leave. Please help me with my chances and maybe some other recommendations before I shell out the hefty application fees... Ideally I'd like to narrow my list to 5 or 6 schools. I'll be honest, I've been slacking with looking into and getting the apps out so I'm a little behind the curve but it'll get done.

Stats:

-White Male
-Sophmore at UMass Amherst - 45 credits (44 graded)
-3.91 GPA (last 2 semesters were 4.0, I've gotten all A's except for one B- in Calculus). Will take 15-18 credits this semester.
- Business major (leaning toward finance or management)
- I think I can get 2 good recs and I can write some good essays.

ECs
-Member of Finance Society, Investment Club, Undergrad Leadership group.
-Work as tutor, intramural sports official about 10 hours per week.
-Volunteer work in orphanages in Nicaragua during summers.

H.S. Stats - I was an underachiever and never really tried.

3.5 GPA

1180 SAT old - I know this will probably hurt, but I feel I've proved I can do college work. I do not want to, but I will retake it if I absolutely must. Maybe I'll look at the ACTs. What do you guys think?

Schools I'm considering, In a really preliminary order of preference...

Top 3 choices...
NYU (Stern) - There is some legacy here.
Georgetown
USC (Marshall)

Others
WUSTL
Emory
UNC-Chapel Hill
Villanova
Fordham

Please be honest about my chances and if you wan't offer other suggestions. Thanks.

You'll be fine.

Congrats on that 3.91. I see no problem considering your grades/g.p.a. is well rounded, you have unique ECs and a rec. letter will be useful and I think recommended for some of the schools you have list above. Your stats fit the UNC and USC profile....so I guess all that is left to do now is to find a transfer acceptance stat of the schools you are interested in.

You're applying as a junior transfer (two years under your belt) so your high school stats shouldn't matter. Colleges will like your GPA. I thought I read that UNC-CH does not discriminate against out-of-state transfers, so that's in your favor. I predict you will escape Zoomass.

ahighschooler - I know, I know. I realized I had too much on my plate last semester trying to juggle 3 clubs, job, and academics. It is hard to get leadership positions as sophmore in my clubs but I will narrow my focus and work something out this semester.

I also forgot to mention I'm in the Honors program if it counts for anything...

I'm only familiar w/ NYU and Fordham. Fordham I am pretty sure you'llget in. NYU is borderline, especially since your worst class was a math and you're applying to Stern. Your GPA is sparkling though, although you don't need me to tell you that ;)

You're in at USC (Marshall)- the average GPA is 3.6 at Marshall. I think you're also in at Stern. You have a very good chance of getting into all of these schools (except Georgetown, that's a reach for everyone). Which one is your top choice?

The only way you'll not get in Fordham is if there are limited spaces available and they gave a minority with less qualified stats more preference.

My top choice is NYU, but I am not terribly confident I will be accepted. After that I am not really sure, but I like USC and Georgetown because of their locations in major cities and strong programs. Thanks for the info on Fordham, that is probably my last choice but I will use it as my safety.

As for why I am transferring... well there isn't a whole lot to do and I think I'd enjoy college life inside a city much better (It's where I'm from). Also, UMass isn't all that well regarded for its Business school(It's decent) and I want to put myself in the best possible position, I'm ambitious and sometimes I feel UMass is holding me back. Theres a multitude of other reasons but I won't bore you with the details.

How does everyone feel about my chances at the other listed schools? Besides the acceptance rates, I'm pretty much in the dark on WUSTL, Emory, UNC-CH, and Nova.

You're in at Emory with their acceptance rate and very competitive at WashU. And Emory fits your bill with being in a city-Atlanta is as bustling and filled with opportunities as there is.

Wow, I thought Emory and WUSTL would be pretty big reaches, that's good to hear.

Anyone else have any comments on the S.A.T. bit? I've posted my stats before and people have sworn my SAT scores would be a problem considering the schools I am applying to and that I should retake them. It sounds pretty silly considering that the S.A.T. is an aptitude test and I've clearly surpassed the expectations that come with an 1180 score. Again, I don't wan't to go through it again, but I want to make sure all my bases are covered. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

You'll be fine at USC and NYU (GPA's super enough to get you in)....I wouldn't be too optomistic about Gtown. Your SAT score is more than 100 points below the 25th percentile. (1290)

Hey guys, I added two schools to my list...

Please note that I am Out of State...

What are my chances at...

UVA (McIntyre School of Business)
UCLA (Business Econ)- Anyone know how job placement is for this program?
Texas (McCombs)

I've realized how much I'd be in debt if I go to a private and am now considering these State School Options... please realistically tell em my chances....
