Furman Class of 2022

My S18 was accepted with a bell tower scholarship.

@katespeare (great name, by the way!), the bell tower replaces the Furman Scholar scholarship.

From website regarding Furman scholar scholarship: Students are selected from eligible high schools their junior years, based on grades, standardized test scores, and extracurricular activities. Furman Scholars who enroll at Furman are each awarded at least $7,500 in institutional scholarship monies.

Furman Scholars awards will be replaced, not stacked, by scholarships exceeding the amount of the award.

If you got a Bell Tower scholarship please post the amount and your stats, if you don’t mind.

S18 admitted but only $5000 Bell Tower despite 35 ACT, 3.9/4.0, NMSF and demonstrated interest.

S18: $25K. 1500 SAT. 3.93 GPA.

Son admitted with $17,000 Bell Tower Scholarship. 35 ACT GPA 89/100 NMSF and demonstrated interest (visited once).

@apraxiamom Her letter guaranteed her $20K a year for four years. Her Belltower was less than this.

Thanks @katespeare - that’s what I was thinking. She visited with her school and once again unofficially, but never did an official visit on her own so that may have been a problem. Ironically, she didn’t visit again because she’d been there several times for sporting events and felt like she already knew the school well. But, Furman didn’t know that! I told her this shows you just never know in this process! Congrats to all the kids who got in!

This is a strange process indeed. Is it possible that Furman has started trying to protect yield and that is the reason for a very high stats candidates being deferred?

My S was awarded a $25,000 bell tower with a 31 ACT (32SS), a 3.76 uw GPA, 10 APs. He visited last year, attended a small local event where he met the regional adcom (and President Davis was there), and he attended Portfolio Days a few weeks ago.

Daughter awarded $23,000 33 ACT-- 3.7/4.3

My D was accepted today with $17,000 Bell Tower. Weighted GPA 4.4, unweighted 4.0 with 1250 SAT.

My D was awarded a 5K Bell Tower with UW 4.0 and a 5.0 weighted with 8 APs and a 33 ACT. She has three national awards, two significant state awards, 7 national honor societies. We are a little confused because she was promised more as a Furman scholar.

I don’t know if it played any factor, but S visited last spring and in October he met with an admission counselor who visited my city.
S18’s letter said he’d hear by end of January about any additional financial aid. I assume that’s when merit packages are sent.

My D visited last summer, and made contact at two separate college fairs. We really like Furman, but it’s hard not to feel a little put off by her acceptance letter seeming different than the letter we got in June.

Accepted today with a 23k Belltower, 3.95 W GPA, 1230 Superscored SAT. I’m suprised, because my stats are “low”. I do have really great EC’s though with great leadership positions, and my essays were extremely well written. I also showed a decent amount of interest (attended a college fair and met with the furman rep, and met with another furman rep twice at my school).

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I just wanted to let y’all know that Furman has a program where seniors can have lunch or have an overnight with a current freshman! I’m a Furman Future, a freshman that hosts overnights/does lunches, and my peers and I love to answer questions and show prospective students what Furman is really about. Contact admissions if you’re interested.

D accepted with 15K Belltower and 10K Legacy scholarships. I wonder if one of the reasons the acceptances and the money vary so much is due to the rigor of the classes and the strength of the school. My older D (sophomore) has done extremely well, but she works hard, especially for her major classes (Psychology). Our high school is very strong academically, which helped her prepare for the rigor at Furman. Her friends who came from schools not as rigorous had a hard time freshman year.

Actually I spoke to Furman admissions today and S18’s merit award will stack on a music award we will hear about later, so merit award has little to do with his stats.

@vistajay, I’m glad you got some answers!

@vistajay Furman admissions called D today and said she was getting a music award as well. Your post helped put my mind at ease and then D got the phone call.

For those accepted, have you received a packet in the mail? My daughter is still waiting.

Yes, S received a packet on the 26th or 27th.
