Will be considered an international student (that's why im not up for scholarships such as national merit)

My interest is in international law and diplomacy. Any chance at these schools? Tufts, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown SFS, Amherst, George Washington, American, UVA, Columbia!!! (might apply ED), Rice, Oxford, London School of Economics, St. Andrew's (UK), McGill, U British Columbia, Middlebury. I have safeties so dont you worry!!!!

thanks soooo much! ill return the favor!!!

What country are you from?
PS I'm 1/2 hispanic too

im from argentina!!! see but here's the thing...some people have been telling me that im hispanic and others have told me that people from like brazil and argentina are not considered hispanic.

i was born with "white skin" (wow, that sounds really racist but i hope no one takes it bad) but im really tan!!! :D

I'm a white skinned Cuban, and i'm pretty sure being from Argentina is being hispanic... anyways I'm pretty sure that being international from Argentina would be a plus.
I would say that you have a good chance at these schools, just from looking at other posts on CC. I'd say it would be harder for you to get into Columbia than say, American.

You have good shots to all the US ones except Columbia (no one has a good shot there, I'm afraid and Georgetown (huge competition for this same type of major there). On the UK universities, I'm afraid I do not really know how it works for you to go there, but in my case, I do the IBs and they would put me there if I want through the UCAS application. You have to apply through the UCAS but you probably have to have great AP scores and they probably won't know or care much about the SATs

Argentinians are considered Hispanic regardless of race; Hispanic is an ethnic construction not a racial one. You can be black, indigenous, white and still be Hispanic. Brazilians are not considered Hispanic because the main criterion for being Hispanic is living in a Spanish-colonized/speaking country.

Columbia and Oxford are near-impossible, and Tufts, Gtown, JHU, and Amherst are reaches. Applying ED to any of those would greatly improve your chances. LSE is also a reach. Middlebury is a high match. GWU is a match. Don't know about St. Andrew's, UVA, UBC, and McGill.

I'd say Tufts, Gtown, and JHU are matches, with GWU as a low match. You're definately qualified. Generally Argentines are considered Hispanic, but internationals are often considered separately.

I am pretty sure Hispanic means 'Latinos', in which case Brazilians would be also considered Hispanic even though we speak Portuguese.

As both an Argentinian and Brazilian, and having studied the origins of the word "Hispanic" -- a construction by the U.S. government for use in the U.S. Census -- I can guarantee you that "Hispanic" refers to Spanish-speaking Latin Americans only.

I guess I will take your word for it...or will I?

(yes I will :P)

looks good, columbia uva and georgetown are reaches, Oxford is a slightly larger reach, saint andrews is a match, tufts a medium reach, the others look pretty good. Middlebury seems like a really really odd choice, since you seem to be into govt/polisci/public policy type stuff.

o and amherst is a reach

thank you soooo much guys!!! anything i can work/improve on????

oh ive got a little question. a bunch of people were telling me that schools like tufts, jhu, uva and amherst were reaches for me. now i could understand that for say schools like columbia and oxford and georgetown SFS, but id say that my overall resume (apart from my GPA of course) is probably the best in my grade and i dont mean that in a conceited, arrogant, or offensive way at all. my question is: does the GPA really matter THAT much? because the people who have 4.0's at my school are anti-social freaks who dont do anything besides study. no clubs, no sports, no leadership, no initiative, no nothing.

what does a person have to get to be a match for schools like jhu and tufts???

Grades are of utmost importance at Oxford, I'd consider it very unlikely.

Likewise, your GPA is low for Amherst and I would definitely consider it a reach.

First of all, thanks for all the feedback again! i really appreciate it. anyway, i forgot to add a couple more schools to the list? mind chancing me on these?

U Chicago (a personal favorite, dont know why it wasnt on my 1st list)

Boston College

Boston U

Emory

Claremont McKenna

can anyone do the whole rejected/accepted list thingy for the schools? thanx!

anyone have any more help please?

please??????????

bump for you...

AND..

Argentines aren't URM's, btw.

Yes they are...they're hispanic.
