Future IB

I want to work in an Investment Bank,(hopefully Goldman Sachs)
and I think Whaton is a good match for it.

There are many programs like Huntsman and J.Fisher…

What is the best program to be competent after 4yrs in an application to an Investment Bank’s NY head quarter?

Just Wharton? Huntsman? or J.Fisher?

Recruitment is not based on academics alone. The name of the school on the degree and the GPA are simply the first hurdle as they are the cutoffs. After that it all comes down to the interview and other factors (experience, connections).

Stop being strict about your planning and make the best decisions as you see fit. Heading to Wharton is a step in the right direction.

Do yourself a favor and read "The Running of the Bulls : Inside the Cutthroat Race from Wharton to Wall Street by Nicole Ridgway".

Do yourself an even bigger favor, completely drop the idea of being an I-banker. I'm assuming you're interested by the enormous starting salaries. If that's the case, please remember that these salaries are so high because you will literally be working the hours of 2 full-time jobs. It is not uncommon whatsoever to hear of I-bankers working 70-80+ hour weeks. So, just be prepared for what you are setting yourself up for if you do decide I-banking is for you.

It's more or less a step on the ladder toward bigger and better things. True, Being an MD at GS/LB/MS isnt too shabby of a job, but most people who go into the financial sector start off in investment banking to catapult them into PE/VC or even HF's. Unless you are breaking out of Wharton UG with an offer from Blackstone (which they do recruit :)) ...the next best thing is to work like a monkey for two years and move on. For some people working 80-90+ hours (comeon 70 is generous :)) is worth it if by 40 you are able to retire comfortably. It's hell, dont get the wrong perception, but if you are able to survive it and you have a knack and drive then by all means give it a shot.....just dont say we didnt tell you so :0
