Hi, I know its a little early as Ive just started completing my IGECT requirements at El Camino but I know that UCLA is the school that I want to attend for my BSN. I have been looking at their admission requirements and one thing that I cant stop thinking about is the statement of purpose. Sure I can write all day about why I want to become a nurse or why Nursing is the right career path for me but I need more than that. They say you should write about adversity, should I include how I am a young mother to 2 small children attending school full-time while working 40hrs a week? They also said write about diversity, should I write about being black and biracial and what that means in terms of my access to education and how there is a lack of black nurses and black Nurse Practitioners (which is what I am working towards, becoming a nurse practitioner)? There are so many things that I could write about but I dont want it to be cliche, i want realness and authenticity without making people uncomfortable, or maybe there should be a level of uncomfortablility as not everyone has the same experiences and exposing some of those experiences in my in my statement of purpose might help me shine as a candidate. I apologize if this was a lot or if it doesnt make any sense, it’s just that I have never wanted anything so much in my entire life. This is what I am meant to do. I am meant to help people and I feel like UCLA’s nursing program will allow me to do that in the ways that I need to. What do you guys think? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
