FYI . Tuition to increase 9% in the fall.

GT students will be paying an extra $405 per semester for tuition.

Is that in state or OOS for the tuition hike?

It’s an extra $405 dollars per semester for both in state and out of state… However the 9% increase is for in state. If you are OOS the increase percentage is less but it’s still $405 more per semester. Hope that makes sense.

Do you know if that was already calculated(they estimated the 2015-6 tuition) in the financial aid statements that were posted?

Opps. I was wrong on the OOS increase. It says…

“The BOR approved a 9 percent increase in Georgia Tech’s in-state undergraduate tuition, or an additional $404 per semester, bringing it to $4,905 per semester for next year. Out-of-state tuition will increase by 6 percent, or an additional $849, amounting to $15,002 per semester.”

I don’t have access to DS’s account. So I don’t know what they estimated the tuition to be. However if you look at your statement you should be able to figure out how much they estimated.

My daughter has the provost so I wonder if it will be counted as in state? I assume.

Yes it look like she will pay what in state residents pay. So every year when they increase tuition her cost will go up like an in state student instead of an OOS one.

This is really a burden for OOS STUDENTS IN PARTICULAR!

Did you really assume annual increases would be less? This should not be news to anyone. When compiling list of potential schools for DS, we made a spreadsheet of total costs for each, year by year, assuming 5% inflation. This gave us a fairly good idea what the total 4 years will cost.

At our visit to GT back in February, the financial aid person told us we should expect at least 5% increase in tuition for OOS, based on past years’ increases. So 6% for OOS is in that ballpark.

@chardo - Honestly I would assume 6% or more for OOS. However I have to say I was a little shocked by the 9% for in state. Thank goodness for Hope.

My daughter has the provost but this new tuition hike may be the clincher that sends her to UF . We can save and she can get her masters at GT. This is such a tough decision for us since we LOVE tech!

@saismom Is your DD AE? Has she looked at the BS/MS at GT?

Also my son is EE but he is doing research in AE’s Space System Design lab. They have some pretty neat projects going on right now.
