G-Dub's reputation...

what is GW's reputation in grad school/law school circles and the employment market in finance and international relations?

thanks a lot!

GW has great status in IR. The Elliott School of International Affairs is one of the top IR schools. Students in ESIA and GW make use of the vast resources in DC for research and internships/career experience. The campus's location is right in the middle of the city.

gw's law school has an excellent reptutation as well----it is by far the most prestigous element of the school----its law school is supposedly on par with georgetown's

The reputation of the undergrad school has little impact on law school admissions. The key for law school is gpa and lsat scores. If you go to Podunk U., and have a 3.9 and an lsat of 171, you could probably get into Columbia or NYU.

GW does not have the reputation for grade inflation that some schools do, though. So if you get a good gpa (i.e., 3.5 plus) it will shine. GW has no problem placing into law schools.

GW has a great law school; however, Georgetown Law's reputation far surpasses that of GW.

This is all correct. I was at the law school fair, and pretty much every admissions official (with the exception of BC) told me flat out that prestige means squat -- they want good grades, good essays, and good test scores. The one advantage GW does have, though, is that you can work at a law firm during college and gain some experience (as well as $$$) in the legal profession. It is definitely good to know what you are getting into before shelling out tons of money for law school. As for international affairs -- GW has a great reputation.
