G PREMEDicin

how is pre-medicine at Grinnell. What is the acceptance rates for Grinnell seniors getting into medical school?

They don't seem to publish these statistics, however, people in academia know that Grinnell students work very hard and are well prepared. Sciences, especially chemistry, are strong at Grinnell. I think if you do well in a pre-med program at Grinnell, you'd have as good a shot as anyone applying med schools that rejects 90% of applicants. It's difficult no matter where you go.

Duke Devil.
As Benjamin Disraeli said there are lies, damnable lies and statistics. I would not put too much stock in ANY college stats most of them are self reported and used for recruitment. For instance I went to Duke never registered with the premed office and went to med school how does that figure into a statistic. Some schools count only students who were somehow "approved to apply" to med schools and brag about really high acceptance rates.

I think it is an advantage to go to a school that is known as a "good school" by med school admissions officers; Grinnell is that.

Does any other school offer a significan advantage I would say not really with this possible exception. Let's say you are a determined pre med and go to Wash University in St. Louis and seek out your freshman year some hot name in the med school and work in his lab or doing research for him over the next 4 years and do a good job and publish a few papers. Now you have "name" in your corner that can help you apply to med school and even possibly get a residency spot. Not too many students do this but as you climb higher up the medical system ladder who you know becomes important.
