Just received an email notice from admissions- due to software problems being experienced by counselors/teachers with the common application; GA Tech has extended the document deadline to Nov. 1 and may further review deadlines re: Early Action. Students however must submit by the Oct. 15 EA deadline. At least it give teachers/counselors some time for software problems to work out before they submit their forms.

Also we were at a GA Tech event a week ago and I asked what would happen if a student had everything ready but the common app experienced software problems when the student was submitting their application. They said to contact admissions and they would help the student.

However EA applicants really should try to submit before the EA deadline to have some wiggle room if the system has further trouble.

Because of ongoing technical difficulties with the Common Application, we have created a page to answer many of the questions we have received since our application opened. We ask our applicants to please review this information as we believe this addresses the majority of issues users are currently experiencing."

Gator- Thanks for posting that info. Usually GT Admission FB has updates but I did not see that there. Many colleges have told my DD’s counselor that CA4 is a disaster with none of them being able to download the applications into their database.

We’ve (DD and I) have been delaying CA, hoping it’s issues would be worked out…blah…but we’ve ran out of time and need to start completing the CA…joy.

Jmlover- CC doesn’t allow links to a good article I have about all the problems coming in with the CA. If you want to learn about them I suggest you google “common app problems” to find it. Another thing to look at is the facebook page of the Common App. CA now has a “subscribe to learn of known problems” that you can do that will keep you updated each day on the state of problems and where CA is in terms of fixing them.

As far as submitting within the last five days I simply wouldn’t take a chance. For my DD I am making sure she submits by Oct. 10. I just want to leave some wiggle room to take care of any problems. We were at GA Tech for an event with admissions two weeks ago and they said that if you ran into problems to contact them to let them know which was their response to my question “can i fed ex a copy of her app if the system prevents us from submitting by the deadline?”

Gator- we did the same thing because it seems like every 3 days CA adds another question or revises a section. I really wish Tech had stayed with their own application. Based on the update email I received from Tech this past week and what was posted on the admission page I bet the admission staff wishes so too. Our regional tech rep will be here on the 20th so I will ask her for an update.

Just makes the process so much more stressful when it doesn’t have to be.
